In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Tersoo Kula, to mark President Tinubu’s 73rd birthday anniversary in Makurdi, Governor Alia thanked God for the gift of life and the strength bestowed upon the President.

The Governor noted that President Tinubu has shown considerable love to Benue, citing the numerous appointments, infrastructure development projects, and other Federal Government initiatives in the state.

Alia also acknowledged theb President’s commitment to prioritizing Benue through his “Renewed Hope Agenda,” while expressing confidence in the country’s promising future under Tinubu’s leadership.

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted six people, including a timber contractor, following an attack on Ayetoro-Kiri community in Bunu district of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, Kogi State.
The attackers, who stormed the community on Thursday afternoon riding on motorcycles, reportedly fired shots indiscriminately, sending residents fleeing into the bush.

Among those abducted are a timber contractor identified as Enoch Johnson, an elder named Maiye, a community secondary school security guard, a young girl named Dupe Oshe, Kehinde Lot, Tope Olorunshe, and another individual whose identity remains unconfirmed.

Witnesses say the assailants first targeted the community’s only mobile phone charging shop, stealing over 50 phones before carrying out the abductions.

“Suddenly, we heard series of gunshots. At first, we thought it was security operatives on a mission. However, upon investigation, we realised it was an attack. We saw people fleeing from the area near the charging shop,” recounted Oluwatoyin Emmanuel, a resident.

The incident has left the community in disarray, with reports indicating that many residents have deserted their homes. Some have taken refuge with relatives in neighbouring communities, while others remain in hiding due to fear of further attacks.

National President of the Aiyetoro-Kiri Development Association, Engineer Tolufashe Olusegun, described the incident as one too many, lamenting the insecurity plaguing Bunu land.

“Our people can no longer access their farmlands and now live in constant fear due to repeated attacks by armed groups. The situation is becoming unbearable,” Olusegun said.

The spate of attacks has heightened concerns over safety in Kogi State’s rural areas, with locals urging security agencies to intensify patrols and deploy additional personnel.

The Northern Youth Association of Nigeria (NYAN) has strongly condemned the brutal killing of 16 travelers in a mob attack in Uromi, Edo State, calling it an unacceptable act of violence that must be met with swift justice.

In a statement issued on Friday, the association’s President, Godiya Adams Bogoro, described the incident as a grave tragedy and urged authorities to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.

“We unequivocally condemn this barbaric act. It is unacceptable that innocent travelers would be subjected to such brutal treatment. The authorities must act swiftly to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Bogoro said.

The youth leader also warned against any form of retaliation, calling on Northerners to remain calm and allow the law to take its course.

The Northern Senators Forum on Saturday reacted to the lynching of northerners travelling to the northern parts of the country, describing the killing as dastardly, despicable and condemnable, urging security agents to go after killers.

Expressing displeasure in a statement issued by the Chairman of Northern Senators Forum on Saturday in Abuja, the Forum said it was deeply disturbed and saddened by the gruesome mob killings of innocent Nigerians in Uromi, Edo State on Thursday 27th March , 2025.

The statement noted that the arsonists profiled the travelers as Fulani kidnappers and brutally murdered them, pointing out that the Forum was taken aback over what has become of certain people and how they could take law into their hands to perpetuate the illegality.

The Forum said the tragic killing was not only heinous in all intents, but a clear violation of the fundamental human rights of the victims, urging Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State to take drastic action in identifying the culprits and bring them to justice.

The lawmakers commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for swiftly ordering arrest of the arsonists.

The statement said: “We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for directing the police and other security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident, with a view to arresting the culprits.

“This swift action demonstrates the government’s commitment to upholding justice and protecting the rights of all citizens.

“As stated in Section 41 of the Nigerian Constitution, every citizen has the right to freedom of movement and residence throughout the country.

“No citizen can be expelled from or refused entry into Nigeria. We must uphold these fundamental principles and ensure that all citizens are treated with dignity and respect.

“We call on the Edo State Government, the security agencies, and all stakeholders to work together to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

“We must promote a culture of tolerance, understanding, and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.”
