The Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, GPFN, expresses deep concern over the tragic killing of 16 travelers in Uromi, Edo State, in an apparent act of mob lynching.

Rev John Joseph Hayab, the GPFN Country Director, in a statement on Saturday made available to Daily Post, said, “This disturbing incident highlights the urgent need to reinforce societal values, uphold the rule of law, and foster peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.

“As an organization committed to the vision of One Family under God, GPFN reiterates the importance of unity and mutual respect across all ethnic and religious divides. Every Nigerian, irrespective of background, deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. Acts of violence and jungle justice not only erode the moral fabric of our society but also hinder national progress and stability.”

Hayab commended the swift response of security agencies in apprehending suspects linked to this incident and urged the government and law enforcement authorities to conduct a thorough, impartial investigation to uncover the facts and ensure justice is served in strict adherence to the rule of law.

He called on the government to urgently address the lingering insecurity that has turned every Nigerian into a suspect, fueling unnecessary fear and distrust among citizens, stressing that the failure to decisively tackle insecurity has contributed to the rise in mob actions and jungle justice, which threaten the nation’s social cohesion and legal order.

According to the Country Director, “The growing climate of fear and suspicion underscores the need for comprehensive security sector reforms. We implore the government, civil society organizations, and community leaders to collaborate in restoring public confidence in the justice system and implementing proactive security measures.”

GPFN urged Nigerians to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

Instead, citizens should report suspicious activities to appropriate authorities and engage in constructive dialogue to resolve disputes peacefully.

The organization also emphasized that public awareness campaigns should be intensified to educate people on the perils of mob justice and the importance of tolerance and understanding.

“This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the collective responsibility we all share in fostering a culture of peace, justice, and respect for human dignity. GPFN remains committed to working with all stakeholders to build a nation where unity and peace prevail.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by this heartbreaking tragedy,” the statement explained.

Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanemere of the Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry, also known as Odumeje, has strongly criticized the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as the “worst” in Nigeria’s history.

Addressing his congregation at the church auditorium on Friday, Odumeje expressed disappointment in Nigerians for being docile despite the unbearable hardship caused by Tinubu’s poor economic policies.

He said Tinubu’s family and cronies are enjoying the wealth meant for Nigerians.

He stated that President Tinubu has nothing to offer Nigerians and vowed to contest for the presidency in 2027 if he gets God’s approval.

Odumeje said, “The government is bragging when there is nothing they have offered to this nation. The current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the worst government that Nigeria has ever had.

“I’m disappointed with all of us, Nigerians, for allowing this person to be suffering us and increasing economic hardship. He and his family are enjoying the money that belongs to everybody, and we are keeping quiet on social media.

Ngelale made the remark while celebrating Tinubu, who clocks 73 today, March 29.

In a statement he signed on Saturday, the former media aide disclosed that Tinubu is the “last man standing” because when all odds are stacked against you, he is rooting for you and guiding you to success.

On September 7, 2024, Ngelale stepped down from his position as Tinubu’s spokesman.​

Ngelale also stepped down as the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen.

A statement by the presidency said Ngelale submitted a memo to Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, informing him of his plan to proceed on indefinite leave.

The former presidential spokesman explained that he stepped down to deal with medical matters affecting his nuclear family.

This comes after Utah Governor Spencer Cox announced late Thursday night that he was allowing a ban on unsanctioned flag displays to become law without his signature.

The law, which will take effect on May 7, will make Utah the first state to ban pride flags.

The flag bill effectively became law when Cox took no action by the midnight deadline on Thursday night.

The bill was authored by state Rep. Trevor Lee, a Republican from Layton, who has consistently stated that the legislation was created specifically to ban pride flags in educational institutions.

However, in a letter to legislative leaders explaining his decision, Cox also expressed appreciation for the LGBTQ+ community.

He said: “To our LGBTQ community, I know that recent legislation has been difficult.

“Politics can be a bit of a blood sport at times, and I know we’ve had our disagreements. I want you to know that I love and appreciate you, and I am grateful that you are part of our state. I know these words may ring hollow to many of you, but please know that I mean them sincerely.”
