The Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command, Emmanuel Ado, has urged citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or security formation for immediate response.

The CP, in a statement released on Saturday, gave the charge via the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, assuring residents of enhanced security measures before, during, and after the celebrations, emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility.

“To ensure a safe and peaceful Sallah celebration, the police command has mobilized officers to conduct visible patrols across the state, covering major routes, residential areas, praying grounds, recreational centers, and critical infrastructure.

“The Command specifically warns motorists to avoid reckless driving and over-speeding, which can lead to accidents and security challenges. He also cautions youths against engaging in any activities that may disrupt the peace or compromise security in playing grounds and recreational centers,” the statement added.

The Commissioner of Police, while extending wishes to the Muslim community on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, urged them to work together to ensure a joyous and secure celebration.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has clarified that its investigation of billionaire socialite Aisha Achimugu has no connection to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

In a statement by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC emphasized that Achimugu is being probed for alleged criminal conspiracy and money laundering, and the case has no political undertones.

“We wish to state unequivocally that the investigations of Achimugu have no correlation of any kind with the two political actors,” the statement read.

The EFCC revealed that the investigation began in 2022, predating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Although, Achimugu previously obtained a court injunction to prevent her arrest, a Federal High Court in Abuja vacated the order on February 19, 2025.

The court ruled, “…no court has the power to stop the investigative powers of the Police or EFCC or any agency established under our laws to investigate crimes when there is reasonable suspicion of commission of a crime.”

Additionally, the court upheld the interim forfeiture of Achimugu’s assets suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Dismissing speculations of political interference, the EFCC reiterated its impartiality:

“The EFCC is non-partisan and non-sectarian. We enjoin the public to continue to keep faith with the professionalism of the commission.”

A former governorship aspirant in Zamfara State, Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has condemned in strong terms the killing of 16 alleged hunters traveling from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to Kano State for Sallah celebrations by a vigilante group in Uromi, Edo State.

The hunters, bearing about 19 locally made firearms, as confirmed by the Inspector General’s statement on Friday, were said to have been stopped by the vigilantes in the area.

The hunters, traveling in a Dangote truck, were reportedly set ablaze, and Shinkafi described this as despicable and an act of sadism of the worst order.

In a statement he signed on behalf of the Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development (PAPSD), Shinkafi condemned what he called man’s inhumanity to man.

“It is heartless, ungodly, barbaric, and savagery,” he said.

“Our hearts bled as we saw fellow compatriots burnt alive by the vigilantes in the video circulated on social media for merely traveling home to celebrate Sallah with their families.

“Jungle justice has no place in all civilized societies. Nigeria is not a Banana Republic. The country is governed by the rule of law.

“Section 41(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, guarantees citizens’ right to freedom of movement.

“The Constitution also provides the right to a fair hearing in a court of competent jurisdiction if an offence is allegedly committed.

“There is no place for mob action, let alone setting fellow citizens ablaze and watching them die. Whither our common humanity? We must redefine our values as a people.

“Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution provides that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.

“We urge security agencies to ensure the protection of citizens wherever they are, particularly during festive periods that require traveling.

“We also urge the Inspector General of Police and relevant security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators of this evil and ensure they face the full weight of the law. This will serve as a deterrent to other criminal elements in the country.

“We urge the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly across the 36 states to enact laws that will curb mob killings in Nigeria.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the departed souls. May Almighty God console, comfort, and strengthen them in this period of grief.

“We also extend our condolences to the government and people of Kano State for the brutal murder of these compatriots.

“May the Lord Almighty forgive their shortcomings and grant them the highest peak of the holy paradise.”

She stated that the clearances were revoked according to President Donald Trump’s directive.

“Per @POTUS directive, I have revoked former President Joe Biden’s security clearance, and revoked clearances and access to classified information for Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton, Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, Fiona Hill, and Alexander Vindman,” Gabbard wrote.

A former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has claimed that the fight between the suspended governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara, and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, is about money sharing.

Amaechi stated this during an interview with DW Africa on Saturday.

He also said the emergency rule imposed on Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu was unconstitutional.

Amaechi said, “The fight between the current governor of Rivers State and the FCT minister is about sharing money.

“If not, what is the quarrel? Nigerians don’t dislike corruption anymore. I’ve not seen anybody on the street querying what the problem is. Can both of them speak to the public and tell us what the problem is?

“We are now denied democracy. Rivers State is the only state in the country currently not enjoying democracy. They have imposed military rule on us.

“Secondly, the President acted outside the Constitution. Section 188 states how a governor can leave office, either by death, resignation, or impeachment. It didn’t say that one day you wake up and a man called the President of Nigeria will throw you out of office, which makes democracy unstable.”

Amaechi also claimed Tinubu had a hand in the political turmoil in Rivers State because he wanted to wield power by ousting governors who may not support him in the 2027 general election.

He added: “Rumours are everywhere that if any governor is not careful, the President will remove you. So, the Rivers issue is about sharing money and 2027 politics.

“If the President said that the pipe that exploded was the reason why he tagged Rivers unstable and insecure by declaring a state of emergency, what about the other parts of the country where there is insecurity? Is the President saying that they should impose an emergency rule on him? They can’t because he is a democratically elected President. There are insecurity issues in the North East and North West, even in the South East and South South.

“The governor has no responsibility for the blown pipes in Rivers. Security responsibility rests solely on the President. Why punish a man who did not commit any offence?”
