The United States of America Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection has announced the nationwide recall of over 212,000 pounds of liquid egg products.
FSIS made this announcement in a notice on Friday.
The agency explained that the liquid egg products were being recalled because they contained a cleaning compound, sodium hypochlorite.
The agency stated that the producer is Cargill Kitchen Solutions, based in Lake Odessa, Michigan.
The FSIS noted that liquid egg items were produced from March 12-13, 2025.
FSIS received a tip about the potential contamination of these products, the service said in its recall notice.
“There is a possibility that the products were distributed nationwide.
“After conducting an investigation and thorough assessment of the contents of the cleaning solution, FSIS scientists concluded that use of this product should not cause adverse health consequences or the risk is negligible, resulting in a Class III recall,” it said.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions thus far due to the consumption of these products, and the announcement also indicated.

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday that Ukraine expected a strong response from Western countries to the nearly daily Russian drone attacks on its territory.
Within an hour of Zelenskyy’s comments, delivered in his nightly video address, officials in Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkiv, reported a mass Russian drone attack that killed one person and injured up to 14.
Similarly, drones hit the southeastern city of Dnipro overnight, killing four people, and the central city of Kryvyi Rih, where nine others were injured.
“Our partners must understand that these Russian strikes target not only our people, but also all international efforts, diplomatic efforts aimed at ending this war,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian leader explained that 172 drones had been directed at Ukraine overnight, but the Ukrainian military said 94 of them had been downed.
“Russia is striking against everyone who seeks to end the war. It is impossible to ignore hundreds of (Iranian-designed) Shaheds every night.
“We expect a response, a serious response. We are working to ensure there is a strong reaction, especially from America, Europe and all those in the world who rely on diplomacy.” he added.
It will be recalled that the US has brokered two ceasefires over the past week, one designed to allow shipping through the Black Sea, the other intended to stop attacks on energy targets.
Meanwhile, Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of violating the accord on energy sites.
Zelenskyy, in his remarks, also said he spoke to Ukraine’s top military commander, Oleksandr Syrskyi, about the situation along the 1,000-km front line in the war, which began when Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
“We are maintaining active measures that prevent the occupiers from advancing into (Ukraine’s) Sumy and Kharkiv regions,” Zelenskyy said.

The Leader of the Nigeria’s Senate, Senator Opeyemi Michael Bamidele on Saturday defended the decision of the National Assembly to ratify the proclamation of state of emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu, noting that they should be commended and not vilified.
As a responsible and responsive parliament, Bamidele argued that an emergency “is an extraordinary measure, and it must be treated as such in the interest of peace and without subjecting to the scrutiny of some parochial interests.”
He made these clarifications at the 29th convocation of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Giving insight into the interventions of the National Assembly, Bamidele observed that the proclamation of emergency rule in Rivers State and its ratification by the National Assembly significantly eased political tension in the state.
But for this laudable decision that prevented further descent into anarchy in Rivers State, the senate leader said the National Assembly “has been subjected to all forms of toxic criticism that do not portray us well before the comity of nations.
“What exactly do we want as a people? A federation that functions for all? Or a federation that relapses into an intractable crisis? We must recognise that emergency rule is an extraordinary measure, and it must be treated as such in the interest of peace and security.
“As stipulated in Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the National Assembly is required to provide its details. The provisions of the 1999 Constitution cannot be interpreted casually without proper understanding of the Nigeria Interpretation Act. 2004.
“As a responsible and responsive parliament that sees peace and stability as a catalyst of growth and development, we were inaugurated into office to promote a nation that works for all and that guarantees the peaceful coexistence of all.
“This desire defines our resolve to ratify the proclamation of the state of emergency in Rivers State with far-reaching provisions. One of such provisions is the constitution of the National Peace Committee to midwife the peace process between the Executive and Legislature in the state.
“We should be commended for this laudable initiative and not be vilified by some political actors, who do not bother about what happens to our national security, but about their parochial interest. Regardless of their unpatriotic moves, we firmly stand for the peace and stability of Nigeria.
“We shall continue to leverage the Authority of the National Assembly to guarantee her peaceful co-existence.
“Our decision, as an institution, is taken purely in the national interest. If any interest is unsatisfied with it, they can as well seek redress in the law court,” Bamidele reflected.
He expressed grave concerns about a barrage of attacks that the opposition parties are viciously launching against the National Assembly, noting that the reasons for such attacks “are purely based on emotion and not reasons; sentiment and not substance.
“Regardless of attacks our critics are throwing at the National Assembly, we are undeterred because we are truly on a rescue mission. The essence of the mission aims at bringing our fatherland from the abyss of regression to the path of progression through the enactment of pro-people legislations and by cultivating strategic collaboration with other arms of government.”
“Collaboration, in this sense, does not suggest the erosion of the independence of the National Assembly for any reason. Rather, in reality, it reinforces the spirit of interdependence that constitutional democracy entails in order to resolve hydra-headed issues that often clog the mechanism of accountable governance,” he clarified.
Bamidele revealed that the National Assembly, more than before “is now focused on building a federation that enjoys internal stability and that rests solidly on the rules of law through the instrumentality of legislation, oversight and representation.
“We are also committed to creating a system that will enable quality education; that will guarantee limitless placements for all our graduates; that will prioritise access to decent houses nationwide; that will significantly reverse our nation’s reports of untold misery and that will, most importantly, remove all barriers to gender inequality.
“How can our nation attain this lofty status without a strategic collaboration being forged among various arms of government? This is the exact question that our hardened critics have failed to ask themselves. Anyway, we have left them to their politically motivated attacks.”
“This does not suggest we are afraid of criticisms as the foremost democratic institution. We are not and we will never be because we believe democracy naturally thrives on public criticism. But such criticisms must be constructive and well structured with the intention of providing alternative, credible and patriotic initiatives, “Bamidele observed.
Also, at the convocation, Pro- Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Akin Oyebode acknowledged the contribution of the alumni of the institution toward its development, saying the alumni plays significant roles in giving support to their alma mater in many institutions all over the world.
He specifically spoke about how the alumni association facilitated the donation of two medical hostels (male and female) through Senator Bamidele.
He added that the alumni through Senator Bamidele ensured construction of another two medical hostels, a mini stadium to the university and the construction of two kilometres road linking the alumni village with the college of medicine, as well as the 500 capacities CBE Centre and FM Radio Station.

The recent revelation that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Committee report on selection of a running mate during the build-up to the 2023 presidential election favoured the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, ahead of the former governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, has stirred fresh controversy.
The controversy was reopened by an aide to the FCT Minister, Mr Lere Olayinka.
The report, signed by former PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, other party leaders and dated June 14, 2022 was sighted by DAILY POST.
It was tagged “Report of the Advisory Committee for the Selection of Presidential running mate.”
The report reads: “The Advisory Committee for the selection of the Presidential Running Mate met today at the PDP National Headquarters, Abuja.
“The Committee unanimously suggested three names for consideration by the Presidential Candidate in the following order of preference: Governor Nyesom Wike, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Governor Emmanuel Udom.
“The Committee’s decision was reached after considering the larger interest of the Party. The Committee thanks the Party for the opportunity to serve.”
The report was also signed by the embattled current PDP National Chairman Umar I. Damagun, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Sen. Bala A. Mohammed, Olusegun Mimiko, Sen. Adolphus Wabara, Sen. David Mark, and Rt. Hon. Oluwole Oke.
Others include Sen. Liyel Imoke, Hon. Theophilus Dakas Shan, Dr. Samuel Ortom, Amb. Taofeek Arapaja, Prof. Stella Effah-Attoe, Haj. Inna Maryam Ciroma, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, Sule Lamido,.Sen. Philip T. Aduda, and Sen. Samuel Anyanwu.
This was contrary to the claim by PDP’s former presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar that the committee picked Okowa ahead of Wike and Udom.
In an interview with Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie, Atiku had said he left the decision of picking his running mate to the then PDP leadership to decide.
According to Atiku: “They said I did not consult widely in 2019 when I picked Peter Obi as my running mate, so in 2023, I told the party to set up a committee to recommend three names.”
Atiku said he picked Okowa as his running mate because the committee set up by the PDP to select Presidential running mate for the 2023 election “ranked Okowa as the top choice, with Wike in second place and former Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel in third. So I picked number one.”
Responding, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Olayinka, said Atiku needs to see the report and seek forgiveness from God for lying during the holy month of Ramadan.
In a chat with DAILY POST, Olayinka said: “Someone needs to show this to Atiku so that he can seek forgiveness from (Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) before Ramadan ends.
“Here is the REPORT of the Committee.
“Imagine Atiku can’t even honour the Holy Month of Ramadan, and keep his lies till the end of the fasting period.
“And now you know why Atiku can’t be trusted. Person say him dey fast, he still dey lie.”
Reacting, Atiku’s Media Office described Olayinka’s comment as an emotional outburst.
It maintained that Atiku had no apologies for choosing Okowa as his running mate ahead of Wike in 2023.
A statement by Atiku’s Media Office said the choice of Okowa was based on a combination of intellect, composure, and statesmanship.
The statement said: “The attention of Atiku Media Office has been drawn to yet another emotional outburst disguised as a press statement from the camp of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, issued by his aide, Lere Olayinka.
“While we understand that bitterness often finds expression in misplaced aggression, we must remind Wike and his team that a bitter heart isn’t capable of charity, nor does it inspire unity, healing, or truth.
“Once again, facts have been twisted in a desperate attempt to rewrite history. Mr. Wike, through his spokesperson, claims that he had 13 votes from a committee set up to recommend a vice presidential running mate, while Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa had only two.
“Let us be clear: there are no laid down rules or laws on the selection process of a running mate. Committees, consultations, and recommendations are advisory in nature. The final decision rests solely and exclusively with the presidential candidate, in this case, Atiku Abubakar. It is a constitutional and strategic choice, not a popularity contest.
“Assuming, but not conceding that Wike had 13 votes and Okowa had 2 — just like universities confer degrees “in learning and in character” — one must ask: what is the worth of votes if character scores a zero?
“Leadership is not only about numbers; it is about temperament, dignity, and the ability to unify. A man may boast of numbers, but if his conduct lacks grace and humility, those numbers are empty.
“We make no apologies for choosing Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as the running mate in 2023. That decision was based on a combination of intellect, composure, and statesmanship.
“We have been vindicated by Mr. Wike’s public conduct in Rivers state where he once served as governor and in Abuja since becoming FCT Minister, which has made it abundantly clear why he was unsuitable for the role of Vice President in a ticket meant to unify, not divide.
“We urge Mr. Wike and his social media spokesperson to resist the temptation to sermonize about religious piety during Ramadan and Lent, too, while simultaneously fanning the flames of discord. Let us not reduce sacred periods to a tool for petty political jabs.
“The task of rebuilding our party and our nation is a serious one. It is time to move beyond bruised egos and focus on what truly matters: the future of Nigeria and the wellbeing of its people.”

It, however, denounced the “deliberate, targeted shelling” of the facility which it said “added to the long list of vile and cynical crimes committed by the Russians since the beginning of the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine”.
According to Kharkiv Mayor, Ihor Terekhov, one of the dead had been pulled out from under rubble.
The Mayor put the overall number of injured at 27.
Terekhov said an office building was also among the targets, with one drone triggering a fire.
The regional governor, Oleh Syniehubov, said 25 people were hurt, including a 15-year-old girl who is in serious condition.

The Palestinian militant group, Hamas’ chief, Khalil al-Hayya, on Saturday, said Hamas has agreed to a Gaza ceasefire proposal it received two days ago from mediators Egypt and Qatar.

When asked if it had also agreed to the ceasefire proposal, the prime minister’s office did not immediately respond.
DAILY POST reports that the first phase of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas went into force on January 19 after 15 months of war and involved a halt to fighting, the release of some of the Israeli hostages held by Hamas, and the freeing of some Palestinian prisoners.
It was gathered that phase two of the three-phase deal is intended to focus on agreements on the release of the remaining hostages and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.
According to Hamas, any proposals must allow the launch of the second phase, while Israel has offered to expand the first 42-day phase.
In response to calls on Hamas to disarm by Israel and the United States, Hayya said the group’s arsenal was a red line and that it would not disarm as long as the Israeli occupation exists.
