Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has congratulated Muslim faithful in the state and across the nation on the successful observance of the Ramadan Fast.

Mbah extolled the lessons and virtues of faith, togetherness, mercy, and charity inherent in the Holy Month of Ramadan, describing them as critical values in nation building.

These were contained in his Eid-el-Fitr message to the Muslim faithful on Sunday.

He said, “I congratulate our Muslim brethren on the successful journey of faith, sacrifice, and charity throughout the holy month of Ramadan and rejoice with them on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr.

“It is my prayer that the virtues of faith, peace, love, mercy, tolerance, and sacrifice imbibed during the Ramadan Fast shall continue to enrich and underline our individual lives and bonding as one people.

“Indeed, it is by faith, working together, and forbearance nurtured by love that we can build a new and more prosperous Nigeria.

“May the profound lesson inherent in the fact this Ramadan was held alongside the Christian Lent foster religious tolerance and national cohesion.”

Governor Mbah wished the people of the state and all Nigerians a delightful and hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has endorsed the ban on the annual Sallah Durbar, citing the decision as crucial for maintaining peace and security across Kano State.

During an Iftar dinner held at his palace on Saturday, Emir Sanusi highlighted that the colourful Durbar festival—an age-old cultural tradition recognized by UNESCO as an intangible heritage of humanity—is secondary to the safety and well-being of Kano residents.

The Emir, while addressing guests at the event, stressed that peace remains the foundation for societal progress and development. In alignment with the security advisory, he agreed to suspend all planned activities associated with the Durbar celebration.

“The Eid El Fitr Durbar is not a matter of life and death. The lives and safety of Kano citizens are more important to me,” he remarked, urging residents to remain peaceful and cooperate with security agencies during and after the Sallah festivities.

The decision to cancel the Durbar followed a joint security announcement by the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Bakori, who cited intelligence reports indicating an impending security threat.

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ibrahim Faruq, commended Emir Sanusi’s concern for public safety. Faruq also recalled the Emir’s kindness and mentorship during his time as a lecturer at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in the early 1980s.

Expressing gratitude for the Emir’s decision, the SSG said, “The Emir’s decision to cancel the Durbar shows his deep concern for the lives of Kano citizens.”

Echoing similar sentiments, the Chief Imam of the National Mosque, Professor Shehu Galadanci, lauded the Emir’s leadership and wisdom in prioritizing the safety of his people over tradition. Galadanci noted that the Emir’s actions promote peaceful coexistence within the state.

Drivers of LagRide, the Lagos state-owned ride-hailing service, are threatening to suspend operations in response to what they describe as unfair enforcement tactics by the platform’s management.

The dispute stems from warnings that Lagos State Task Force officials may be deployed to arrest drivers accused of violating company policies.

Steven Iwindoye, spokesperson for the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria, raised the alarm in Ikeja, condemning the platform’s aggressive stance.

According to LagRide management, some drivers have been actively discouraging passengers from using the app, instead directing them to rival services such as InDrive and Bolt. Drivers were also accused of rejecting trips without valid reasons and accepting cash payments, both of which violate company policy.

In a recent notice, LagRide management warned that regulatory officers and the state task force would monitor operations, and non-compliant drivers risked severe penalties, including arrests, vehicle impoundment, and possible legal action.

Reacting to the threats, Iwindoye cautioned LagRide against resorting to heavy-handed measures, stating that impounding vehicles and arresting drivers would escalate tensions.

“If the government does not intervene, we will have no choice but to stage protests and shut down LagRide services,” he said.

He explained that many drivers turned to cash transactions after LagRide disabled the app’s cash payment option, allegedly to compel drivers to remit earnings weekly. He also criticized the financial burdens imposed on drivers, claiming that CIG Motors, LagRide’s new managing entity, levies multiple charges while failing to cover vehicle maintenance costs.

CIG Motors, a Chinese state-owned automaker behind GAC Motors, took control of LagRide’s operations after the Lagos government ended its partnership with Zenolynk Technology Ltd., the original app developer, in March. Following the transition, CIG launched a new app after Zenolynk reportedly shut down the previous platform.

Barely a month into its full control, CIG Motors now faces mounting tensions as LagRide drivers continue their offline boycott, demanding urgent fixes to app-related issues and better working conditions.

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has appealed to the people of the state to embrace unity and peace.

A statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesman, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the governor felicitated with the Muslim community over Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan fasting.

He urged the Muslim community in Zamfara State and beyond to reflect deeply on the sacrifices and devotion to Allah made during Ramadan.

He said: “My dear Muslim brothers and sisters in Zamfara State and beyond, I extend the compliments of the season and my heartfelt congratulations as we mark the end of the year 1446 AH Ramadan fast.

“This holy month has been a time of deep reflection, sacrifice, and devotion to Allah (SWT).
