Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju on Sunday charged Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State to resist the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.
This was as Adeyanju urged Fubara to make Wike politically irrelevant in Rivers State by 2027.
Adeyanju made the call following the Supreme Court’s judgment that blocked federal allocations to Rivers State.
The Supreme Court had ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and the Accountant General of the Federation to stop allocating funds to the Rivers State government.
It stated that the ruling would remain in force until Fubara ceases all illegal, unlawful, and unconstitutional activities.
The apex court directed that funds would be released to Fubara’s government only when a lawful Appropriation Law is enacted under the Martin Amaewhule Speakership.
In the judgment delivered on Friday by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, the Supreme Court also ordered the 27 members of the Rivers House of Assembly to resume their functions immediately.
The face-off between Wike and Fubara led to 27 lawmakers defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Their defection resulted in the declaration of their seats as vacant, and Amaewhule was subsequently removed as Speaker under Fubara’s leadership.
A Speaker backed by Fubara, Oko Jombo, then emerged.
Reacting to the Supreme Court’s judgment, Wike said the ruling signified that all impunity in Rivers State must stop.
However, Adeyanju, in a Facebook post, wrote:
“I have not seen or read the Rivers judgment and as such cannot discuss or comment on what I have not read, but I want to urge Governor Fubara to resist Wike and also make him politically irrelevant in 2027.”

The Edo State Government on Sunday said it remains committed to supporting the welfare of the people of the state, irrespective of faith, tribe, or background, to ensure a peaceful and inclusive society.
DAILY POST reports that the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, stated this at the 13th edition of the NTA Benin Network Centre’s Ramadan lecture, organized in collaboration with the Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, in Benin City.
Ikhilor, represented by Dr. Suleman Ikhuoriah, a member of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission, EDSIEC, assured that the state government would continue to work towards ensuring a peaceful and inclusive society.
He noted that Ramadan is a period of spiritual rebirth, reflection, and rejuvenation, marked by fasting, prayers, and spiritual growth.
The SSG, who emphasized that the state government recognizes the significance of Ramadan and values unity, compassion, self-discipline, empathy, love, generosity, and peace, added that it is also a time to show love and kindness to neighbors and fellow citizens.
While congratulating the Muslim Ummah on the holy month of Ramadan, he also extended the Edo State Government’s warmest greetings to the Muslim community in the state.
Earlier, in her welcome address, Mrs. Teni Ajayi, Zonal Director of NTA Benin Network Centre, said the organization’s annual Ramadan lecture has been held for over a decade.
Ajayi, who said the 2025 lecture was themed “Ramadan: A Tool for Societal Reformation,” noted that the management of NTA Benin City uses the platform to bring together eminent personalities from the Muslim community in and around Edo State to sensitize them and the general public on the significance of Ramadan.
“Ramadan is a holy month of fasting, prayer, and communication with God by Muslims. It is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and one of the most sacred times of the year.
“Ramadan is a time to renew faith, seek forgiveness, and increase self-discipline. It is also a time to empathize with those who are less fortunate in our various communities.
“As part of our corporate social responsibilities, NTA Benin Network Centre will continue to drive this laudable initiative.
“For this year, we are very grateful to the Edo State Council for Islamic Affairs for their collaboration in organizing this event,” she said.
She, however, appealed to Muslim faithful to emulate the spirit of generosity, charitable giving, unity, solidarity, and brotherhood or sisterhood.
On his part, Alhaji Abdulazeez Igbinidu, Chairman of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Edo State chapter, commended NTA Benin for its partnership in promoting the Islamic religion, particularly through the annual Ramadan lecture.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Sunday said that Egypt’s Gaza reconstruction plan, which ensures Palestinians remain in their land, is ready and will be presented at an emergency Arab summit in Cairo on Tuesday.
Arab states, which were quick to reject President Donald Trump’s plan for the US to take control of Gaza and resettle Palestinians, are scrambling to agree on a diplomatic offensive to counter the idea.
Trump’s plan, announced on February 4 following a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, appeared to back away from longstanding US Middle East policy focused on a two-state solution and sparked anger among Palestinians and Arab nations.
Abdelatty said Egypt would seek international backing and funding for the plan and emphasized Europe’s crucial role, particularly in the financing of Gaza’s reconstruction.
“We will hold intensive talks with major donor countries once the plan is adopted at the upcoming Arab Summit,” he said.
Recall that Israel on Sunday blocked the entry of aid trucks into Gaza as a standoff over the truce that has halted fighting for the past six weeks escalated.
According to Abdelatty, the use of aid as a weapon of collective punishment could not be permitted.
The first phase of the fragile ceasefire agreement expired this weekend.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to the originally agreed ceasefire that had been scheduled to move into a second phase.
“It will be difficult, but with goodwill and political determination, it can be achieved,” he added.

Workers in institutions of higher learning run by the Adamawa State Government are set to go on strike over demands that the government has failed to meet.
The workers begin a warning strike on Monday, March 3, 2025, to be followed by an indefinite strike on Monday, March 10, unless the government responds favorably.
The Joint Action Committee, JAC, of Academic and Non-Academic Staff Unions of Adamawa State-owned Tertiary Institutions made the announcement in a communiqué released after a meeting at the ASUP Secretariat, Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola.
JAC said the strike notice was decided after the expiration of an ultimatum earlier issued to the government.
The Chairman of JAC in the state, Dr. Maryam Abdullahi, and Secretary Musa Yakubu signed the communiqué, which identified the institutions involved as Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola; Adamawa State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Michika; College of Education, Hong; College of Nursing Sciences, Yola; and College of Agriculture, Science, and Technology, Ganye.
The communiqué mentioned the full implementation of the Consolidated Tertiary Institution Salary Structure (CONTISS) and the new minimum wage of 2024 as being among JAC’s demands.
The unions are also pressing for the reversal of over-deductions in ASHA and PAYE, the implementation of financial benefits on promotions, and higher funding for state-owned tertiary institutions.
Further demands include the appointment of principal officers where required and the adoption of a revised salary table to replace the current one.
JAC accused the state government of a lack of engagement, saying that no committee has been formed for negotiations despite repeated appeals.
“As a result, the unions resolved to commence the seven-working-day warning strike beginning March 3, 2025,” JAC stated.
In the communiqué, JAC called on its members to ensure total compliance with its directive, even as it expressed sympathy with students, parents, and the general public for any inconvenience that may be caused by the industrial action.
