The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended an armed robbery suspect, Godswill Achili, who was caught wearing a military uniform while operating along the Abuja-Keffi Road and parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, Achili was arrested by officers from the Angwan Lambu Police Division, Keffi, during an intelligence-driven operation.
During questioning, the suspect admitted to impersonating a soldier and engaging in armed robbery.
Investigations revealed that he was part of a criminal syndicate that preys on unsuspecting victims, mainly students and youths traveling between Keffi, New Karu, and the FCT. The gang, using a black, unregistered Toyota Avalon, deceives victims before robbing them of their money and mobile phones.
Two other members of the gang are still on the run, and efforts are underway to track them down.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to help combat crime in the state.

Farakwai explained that the green color represents growth, responsibility, and sacrifice; white stands for peace, redemption, and unity; red signifies solidarity, courage, and love; while black symbolizes emancipation, justice, and honor.
He also inaugurated a state harmonisation, structure, and mobilisation committee for the North-West states of Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kaduna, Jigawa, Sokoto, and Zamfara. This committee will oversee political activities and coordinate the formation of 13-man steering committees in each local government area.
Farakwai emphasized that TNN has already registered 43 million members and is prepared to establish a political party that will promote human rights and good governance.
In his remarks, TNN’s National Chairman, Prof. Garba Waziri, urged committee members to strengthen grassroots political structures, ensure public participation in decision-making, and uphold integrity to unite the country.

The Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has confirmed the rescue of 59 kidnapped victims.
Governor Uba Sani shared the news on his verified Facebook page where he wrote: “Emotions were at their peak as I bade farewell to the 59 kidnap victims who were recently released through the joint efforts of the Kaduna State Government, the Office of the National Security Adviser, and security agencies.
“Upon their arrival in Kaduna, they were housed at the Kaduna State Shelter Home, where they underwent medical treatment and psychosocial therapy. After 10 days of intensive care and monitoring, they were certified medically and psychologically fit to return to their families and resume their normal activities.
“The victims have given strong assurances that they will put the terrible experience behind them and focus on their families and businesses. In appreciation of their courage and resilience, as well as their firm determination to rebuild their lives, the State Government will support them with start-up funds and tools to help them start afresh.
“The Kaduna State Government remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property. We shall continue to take all necessary measures to sustain the prevailing peace and security in Kaduna State. Our Peace Model has been hailed as an innovative, results-oriented, and sustainable approach to peacebuilding and conflict resolution. The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has once again stepped in to address the crisis within the Labour Party, resolving, among other reforms, to rebrand the party or pursue a merger, and possibly form coalitions to defend the interests of the NLC and Nigerian workers within the party.
The NLC stated that this decision had become necessary to reclaim the party and restore it to its original ideological roots. The resolution was reached at the National Executive Council, NEC meeting of the union in Adamawa State.
Ajaero said: “After carefully examining the unfortunate events in the Labour Party, which was created by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the opaqueness that pervades its activities, NEC-in-session directed the National Administrative Council to take immediate steps, which may include rebranding, a merger, or forming coalitions to defend the interests of the NLC and Nigerian workers in the party, with a view to reclaiming it and returning it to its original ideological roots.
“The Congress will not allow the Labour Party to be hijacked by reactionary forces who do not represent the aspirations of the working people and the broader Nigerian populace.
“The NLC remains committed to ensuring that the party remains a true vehicle for the emancipation of Nigerian workers and the oppressed masses.”
On the 35 per cent tariff hike in telecommunications services, Ajaero stated that the NEC acknowledges the agreement reached on 21 February 2025 between the NLC and the federal government through the Joint 10-Man Committee, which reduced the initially proposed telecommunications tariff hike from 50 per cent to 35 per cent.
However, he noted that the Congress remains vigilant, recognising the long history of breaches of such agreements.
Ajaero warned that if the agreement is not implemented as agreed by 1 March 2025, the National Administrative Council is mandated to immediately deploy all necessary measures to enforce compliance, in line with the Central Working Committee directive of 10 February 2025.
“The NEC reaffirms the historical responsibility of the working class to resist all forms of exploitation and oppression. It calls on all affiliates, industrial unions, and progressive allies to remain on high alert and fully prepared to engage in decisive mass action against all anti-people policies of the state.”

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has stated that his government will implement the recent Supreme Court judgment on the state’s lingering political crisis without reservation.
Fubara said that although his government disagrees with the judgment, they are bound to obey it as a law-abiding administration.
The governor made this statement on Sunday in a broadcast on AIT.
DAILY POST reported that the apex court had ruled that funds would be released to Fubara’s government only when a lawful Appropriation Law is enacted under the Martin Amaewhule Speakership.
In the judgment delivered on Friday by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, the Supreme Court also ordered the 27 members of the Rivers House of Assembly to resume their functions immediately.
Reacting to the ruling, Fubara directed the head of administration to take over the management of local government affairs in the state until the next council elections are held.
The governor said: “We are all aware of the recent Supreme Court judgment and pronouncement regarding the lingering political crisis in our dear state. Although we disagree with the judgment, we are bound to obey it as a law-abiding government.
“We have conducted the affairs of our government within the framework of our constitution and the rule of law. While we are not above mistakes because we are human, we have not, as a government, trampled on the rule of law.
“I have had a meeting with my team of lawyers, and they assured me that the certified true copy of the judgment may be available to me on Friday.
“I assure you that upon its receipt, we will implement the judgment without any reservation to move the state forward.
“I further direct that the head of administration should take over the conduct of local government affairs.”

Iran’s parliament on Sunday voted to remove the country’s Economy Minister, Abdolnaser Hemmati, from office over mismanagement of the economy and a plunging national currency.
According to state media, the parliament dismissed Hemmati in a no-confidence vote nearly eight months after President Masoud Pezeshkian appointed his cabinet.
During this period, Iran’s currency has reportedly lost close to half of its value against the US dollar.
The Iranian rial now trades at 927,000 to the US dollar, compared to 595,500 in August last year.
State media reported that parliamentarians opposing Hemmati argued that he had failed to prevent price increases in essential goods such as medicine, food, and housing, while also being unable to control the foreign exchange market.
Hemmati had prioritised ending US sanctions on Iran and removing the country from the Financial Action Task Force’s blacklist.
According to Hemmati’s supporters, it was not the right time to remove the economy minister, as Iran remained under US sanctions, and replacing him would cause further instability.
The economy is said to be the primary challenge for Iran’s ruling clerics, who fear a resurgence of protests by lower- and middle-income communities angered by rising poverty, which have erupted periodically since 2017.
