Yobe State Police Command said it has succeeded in prosecuting 454 criminal cases in 2024, while probing 116 cases more.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, revealed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, highlighting the Command’s significant milestone in its fight against crime in the state in 2024.
“During the period under review, a significant decrease in crimes, including: armed robbery, kidnapping, and homicide, was recorded.
“454 cases were successfully investigated and prosecuted, with 116 cases still under investigation”, he said.
According to him, the Command had adopted new strategies aimed at protecting vulnerable groups from harm, resulting in a decrease in sexual-related offences.
“Similarly, 17 cases of unnatural offences were recorded and are being thoroughly investigated and prosecuted”, Abdulkarim added.
The Command through the PPRO restated its commitment in ensuring the safety and security of all residents across the state, noting that this commitment is reflected in the Command’s efforts to sustain its successes and build on its achievements in 2025.
The Command also acknowledged the collaboration and cooperation of the members of the public and enjoined them to continue with the efforts.

Ivory Coast President, Alassane Ouattara, on Tuesday, said that French forces would withdraw from the nation.
Ouattara, while speaking in an end-of-year address to the nation, said Ivorians should be proud of the modernised state of their own armed forces.
“In this context, we have decided on the coordinated and organised withdrawal of French forces,” he said.
Sources said that France has been considering reducing its military presence in West and Central African countries, including Ivory Coast, to 600 troops from around 2,200 now.
Recall that France has already pulled its soldiers out of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, amid military coups in those countries and spreading anti-French sentiment.
Similarly, the Chadian government, which is a key Western ally in the fight against Islamic militants in the region has also ended its defence cooperation pact with France in November.

Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky, has vowed that his country would use 2025 to fight for an end to Russia’s nearly three-year-long invasion by any means necessary.
Zelensky’s address caps a difficult year for the country which has been fending off a better-resourced Russian army for nearly three years.
The Ukrainian leader, in an address to the nation just before the clock struck midnight in Kyiv, said may 2025 be their year.
“We know that peace will not be given to us as a gift but we will do everything to stop Russia and end the war,” he said.
Since the war began, Ukraine has lost seven times more territory to Russia in 2024 than in 2023, and is facing the possibility of a reduction in US military and political backing when Donald Trump takes over the White House.
DAILY POST recalls that incumbent US President Joe Biden’s administration unveiled almost $6 billion in military and budget aid for Ukraine on Monday in a race to support Kyiv before president-elect, Donald Trump, takes office in January.
Trump has promised to end the conflict in 24 hours once in power, raising fears in Ukraine that it will be forced to give up all the land the Kremlin currently controls in exchange for peace.
Zelensky, in his New Year address, said that Ukraine had to continue to fight to gain the upper hand both on the battlefield and ahead of any prospective peace talks.
“Every day in the coming year, I, and all of us, must fight for a Ukraine that is strong enough,” the Ukrainian leader said.

Governor Hope Uzodinma has signed into law the Imo State 2025 Appropriation Bill following the passage of the budget by the State House of Assembly.
The budget which was initially pegged at N756bn by the Governor was later increased to N807bn by the State lawmakers.
Signing the bill into law at the New Exco Chambers, Government House Owerri, Governor Uzodinma noted that what the lawmakers did by increasing the original figures he presented before them a few days ago shows an alignment between the Executive and the Legislature in providing essential services to the people.
The Governor expressed satisfaction over the expeditious passage of the bill and the alteration of the original figure, which he said was done in exercise of their oversight functions.
The appropriation signed into law showed that capital expenditure got N694,786,041,220 or 86.09 per cent of the total sum.
The recurrent expenditure got N112,302,000,000, which is 13.91 percent of the budget.
“As outlined in my recent budget speech, this Budget of Expanded Economic Opportunities is designed to drive the economic transformation of our state through improved infrastructure and industrialization.
“Beyond focusing on making our economy one of the fastest-growing in the region, we aim to position the state as a prime destination for genuine investors.
“The following allocations to core ministries underscore my resolve to strengthen economic growth in 2025,” he maintained.
Earlier in his speech ahead of the signing, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Chike Olemgbe explained that the appropriation bill presented to them was carefully crafted, a situation that made their job easy and seamless.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has urged Adamawa people to believe in Nigeria and the Nigerian project.
He said in his 2025 new year message that as a nation “we have a lot to be thankful for in 2024.”
While expressing optimism for 2025, the Governor said in the message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Humhashi Wonosikou, that the hope for a better country must not be lost.
“We must resolve this New Year to return to ourselves and give impetus to our hopes, aspirations and expectations,” he advised.
He told Adamawa people to expect great things from his administration.
“As we look ahead to the New Year, our government will continue to build an economy that works for all. We will keep attracting historic investments into the state,” he said.
He asked the people to be partners in efforts to make life better for all.
He said, “In 2025, let’s continue to show up for one another, and together, let’s build a better future for everyone.
