Kano State Governor Kabir Yusuf has signed into law N719.8 billion as budget for 2025.
The governor, while signing the budget at the Government House on Tuesday, promised to judiciously utilise the state’s funds in accordance with global best practices of public financial management.
The budget tagged “Budget of Hope, Human Capital, and Economic Development” prioritises education, infrastructure and human capital development, with 64 per cent allocated to capital expenditure and 36 per cent to recurrent expenditure.
Governor Yusuf assured the people of the state that the budget would be utilised judiciously for the benefit of the populace.
“I want to guarantee that allocating 64 per cent of the budget to capital projects and 36 per cent to recurrent expenditure will positively impact the lives of the citizens.
“The total budget estimate that has been ratified today amounts to N719.8 billion, with 64 per cent allocated to capital projects, totalling N457 billion and recurrent expenditure, totalling N262.6 billion.
“Today, we witnessed the ratification of the 2025 budget, which was presented to the Kano State House of Assembly a few months ago,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to the speaker of the assembly and the members for their dedication to ensuring that the budget became a reality.

Tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have reached a boiling point, with fears of escalation to an all-out war after the Taliban deployed troops to the border in response to deadly strikes and rising hostilities.
The Afghan Taliban claimed responsibility for launching devastating artillery attacks on Pakistani military positions along the contentious Durand Line, further inflaming an already volatile situation.
According to Taliban officials, multiple Pakistani checkpoints were destroyed, and battalions of fighters have been mobilised to prepare for any retaliation from Islamabad.
The Taliban’s strikes come as retaliation for recent Pakistani airstrikes targeting the position of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, TTP, in eastern Afghanistan.
Afghan officials reported that the airstrikes killed 46 civilians, including women and children, prompting vows of retaliation from the Taliban.
The Afghan government, under the Taliban, accused Pakistan of violating Afghan sovereignty, with one senior Taliban official warning, “We didn’t kick NATO out only to be intimidated or humiliated by Punjabis.”
The Taliban’s Ministry of Defence placed troops on high alert and fortified positions along the border, signalling readiness for prolonged conflict.
Taliban foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi cautioned Pakistan, stating, “We will not forget Pakistan’s aggression on Afghan soil today.”
Despite Islamabad’s nuclear capabilities, Taliban officials expressed unwavering confidence in their ability to confront any escalation, with one senior leader asserting, “We have faith and know that God is with us.”
Pakistan now faces a growing threat from both the Afghan Taliban and the TTP, a militant group emboldened by the Taliban’s return to power in 2021.
The TTP, allegedly armed with weapons seized from retreating U.S. forces, has intensified attacks on Pakistani soil, complicating Islamabad’s security challenges.
Pakistan had previously supported the Afghan Taliban during the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan, hoping to secure strategic influence. However, the Taliban’s rise to power has backfired, worsening Pakistan’s internal insurgency.
The escalating crisis has drawn international attention, with Russia urging both sides to exercise restraint. Concerns are mounting over the potential for regional instability as tensions between the two neighbours show no signs of de-escalation.
As Taliban forces continue to deploy along the border and Pakistan accuses Kabul of harbouring militants, the situation remains precarious, with both sides bracing for further conflict.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Nentawe Yilwatda, said food queue stampedes are not limited to Nigeria, stressing that they have also happened in advanced parts of the world like the United States.
This is as he blamed poor organisation for the food queue stampedes that recently happened in parts of Nigeria during the 2024 Yuletide season.
Yilwatda stated this on Tuesday when he appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s 2024 Year-End Review.
“Stampedes have taken place in more developed countries than Nigeria.
“If you recall Hurricane Katrina in the US when they had food distribution because of poor organisation, they had stampede.
“Also, in the school food distribution in Texas, in the US, the same thing happened. It has happened in several countries that are more developed than Nigeria, where you have poor organisation,” the minister said.
DAILY POST recalls that three major food queue stampedes were recorded in Oyo, Anambra and Nigeria’s capital city Abuja, respectively, where no fewer than 70 lives were lost.
Many blamed the unfortunate incidents on hunger and the high cost of food, while the private organisers of the food distribution programmes have been detained by the police.
According to the minister, the Federal Government is the biggest distributor of relief materials to the poorest of the poor in Nigeria.
He added that the government distributes relief materials more than private individuals yet no stampede has been experienced in government programmes.
Yilwatda urged private persons willing to donate relief items to Nigerians to get the proper organisation right and seek the ministry’s help.
