The Peter Obi Media Reach, POMR, has said that its principal did not advocate for dismantling Nigeria’s church structure.

POMR said the interpretation of the 2023 Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate’s recent media interview was misleading.

The organization, in a statement by its spokesperson, Ibrahim Umar in Abuja on Sunday, said it clarified that there was no indication in the interview that Obi was calling for the dismantling of places of worship.

Umar stated, “We have been made aware of a significant distortion of Obi’s recent media interview, which erroneously claims he called for the dismantling of churches in Nigeria.

“The headline given to the interview has misrepresented the essence of Obi’s message, twisting it to serve a mischievous agenda.”

He described Obi as a man of deep faith who respects all religions.

According to him, in the interview, the former Anambra State Governor aimed to illustrate how faith can be more effectively integrated into people’s lives.

Obi referenced Apostle James’s words in James 2:14, stating, “Faith without works is unhelpful,” and in James 2:24, “You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.”

Umar explained that when Obi mentioned turning night vigils into production nights, he highlighted the importance of worship through work.

“Even Jesus Christ did not choose his 12 disciples while they were praying; he found them working—fishermen, tax collectors, and so forth,” he said.

Umar pointed out Proverbs 14:23, which states, “All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.”

He further stated that Nigerians should not substitute work for prayer, as both should coexist.

“There is no biblical evidence of Jesus blessing an idle person; instead, he consistently rewarded hard work, as seen in the Parable of the Three Servants (Matthew 25:14-30), where the servant who produced greater profit through diligent effort received the larger blessing,” Umar noted.

The POMR restated that the media’s slant on Obi’s interview contradicts its true essence and should be dismissed.

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) says it lost about N6 billion following the 12-day power outage that severely impacted business and social activities across its service areas in Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states.

KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, Sani Bala Sani, explained that during the outage, 70 transformers were reportedly vandalised, thereby compounding the company’s challenges.

According to Sani, “the company is implementing load shedding, prioritising industrial and commercial feeders to support economic growth, especially in Kano, an industrial hub.”

He explained that the blackout that began due to a tripping incident on the 330kV transmission line disconnected several northwestern and northeastern states from the national grid.

Sani further explained that with efforts to balance distribution between industrial and residential areas, power was finally restored on Wednesday.

He stated that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) worked tirelessly to restore grid connectivity to the affected states, gradually re-establishing electricity supply across communities in the northern region.

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has claimed that his houses in Port Harcourt and Aba were demolished to pave the way for construction of roads.

Umahi made the claim following the resistance he is facing from some property owners in the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project.

The former Ebonyi State governor said his properties have been demolished for some road projects in parts of the country.

He stated this during a meeting with those whose properties were affected by the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project in Victoria Island area of Lagos State on Sunday.

The Minister pleaded for the cooperation of the land and property owners, adding that whatever the court says, “we will obey. But please, let nobody take laws into his or her hands.”

“I plead with you if you are offended by me or the ministry, please accept our apology. The coastal highway must be on land and where there are issues like cables, we will do a flyover or refinery, we will do a flyover.

“In Port Harcourt, my property was also involved in the construction of East-West Road, totally demolished. In Aba, my property was also involved.

“Please, bear with me and know that we have nothing to benefit or hide.”

DAILY POST reports that the project, which has caused some buildings to be demolished, has attracted a barrage of intense criticisms from many Nigerians.

Umahi was in the company of federal lawmakers inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects across the nation.

Tempers flared at a point when the Minister opened the floor for questions, with a woman who identified herself as a leading campaigner for Tinubu during the 2023 election, challenging some of the government’s decisions.

According to her, the road was diverted into her estate in Lagos, with all her houses demolished despite having the necessary certificates and authorisations from the government.

She accused the Minister of having diverted the road to her estate to prevent the houses of his friends and people in high places from being demolished instead.

In turn, Umahi said the woman has been doing all she could to stop the project from going on.

He accused her of mobilising protests to stop the coastal road project.

“You have been doing a lot to stop the project. Listen to me, if I get further disturbances from you, there will be consequences for it.

“We are following the law. You are free to go to court if we are infringing on your rights,” Umahi said.

And the woman continued speaking even after the microphone had been taken from her, the minister said, “Security, move her out”.

She was heard saying, as she agitated, “I’m a matron in Tinubu campaign organisation that has over 5,000 members.”

Umahi further disclosed that the final designs would be produced, insisting that the shoreline belongs to the Federal Government.

“The beachside is not your land, the beachside belongs to the Federal Government,” he said.

The Lagos-Calabar Superhighway, estimated to cost about N15 trillion, is designed to connect Lagos to Cross River, passing through Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom states, before culminating in Cross River.

The project, which has caused some buildings to be demolished, has attracted a barrage of intense criticisms from many Nigerians who strongly felt that the timing of the project was wrong but Umahi said the project is in the best interest of Nigerians.

No fewer than three bloodthirsty bandits have been gunned down by Nigerian soldiers at the Mai-Iddo village in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

About four farmers, including a woman, were rescued during the gun battle between the security operatives and the assailants.

The bandits, according to Daily Trust, abducted two farmers at Mai-Iddo village and two others, including a woman, at a farm in the neighbouring Arikon village last week.

It was gathered on Sunday that the victims were rescued after a raid on bandits’ hideout at a forest in Kurmin-Kare village.

According to reports, the soldiers, who were on a clearance operation around neighbouring villages in Kagarko LGA, encountered the assistants, resulting in a fierce gun battle and led to the death of the three bandits.

Efforts by DAILY POST to obtain reaction from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful at the moment as its spokesperson, ASP Hassan Mansur, could not be reached.
