LaLiga: Real Madrid president, Perez in showdown talks with Ancelotti over poor form

Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, is set to summon manager Carlo Ancelotti for crisis talks amid the team’s difficult run of form, according to Mail Sport.

Ancelotti, who is in his second spell with the LaLiga giants, has won 14 trophies across 310 games with the club, including three Champions League titles.

However, their 2-0 defeat at Liverpool this week, has seen their hopes of retaining the crown in doubt.

Los Blancos currently sit 24th in the league phase with two wins and three defeats from five games.

Real are also four points off rivals Barcelona in LaLiga and have scored 14 goals fewer, despite having attacking talent that includes Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jnr and Kylian Mbappe.

This has led to Ancelotti coming under pressure in his role, with the legendary Italian coach facing criticism for Real’s struggles this season.

Use of tinted glasses on vehicles remain illegal in Nigeria – Police

The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated that it is illegal to use tint on vehicles in the country, emphasizing that there is a law backing the prohibition.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated this on Saturday while responding to a post by an X user.

According to Adejobi, the NPF only suspended the enforcement of the ban on tint because the issuance of the permit was put on hold.

He wrote, “There is a ban on it. It’s even a legal matter because there is a law on it. The police only suspended the enforcement of the law because we had suspended the issuance of the tint permit.

“The police may be discretional about it, to ascertain whether the vehicle is being used for criminal activities or not. The use of tint on vehicles in Nigeria is an offence, and many have abused it.”

Adejobi’s remark on the tint matter is, however, confusing, as the NPF had in February 2024 lifted the ban.

DAILY POST reports that the ban was previously initiated due to widespread concerns regarding the role of tinted glass in aiding criminal activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery, the illegal transportation of firearms, and human trafficking.

However, Adejobi, in a statement on February 22, 2024, announced that the ban had been lifted.

The delegates from Zamfara State who participated in the just-concluded Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) delegates conference held in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, narrowly escaped a ghastly motor accident along the Abuja-Kaduna road on Friday while returning to Zamfara.

Reporting the incident, the Zamfara State Secretary of the NUJ, Malam Ibrahim Ahmed Gada, said that the incident occurred when the just-reelected Zonal Secretary, Zone A, Comrade Abdurrazak Bello Kaura, who was driving the Zamfara NUJ officials, dodged an oncoming vehicle to avoid a head-on collision while moving on the same lane due to ongoing road construction.

According to Ahmed Gada, “It was as a result of dodging the oncoming vehicle that our bus jumped to the other lane and brushed against and hit a long tanker vehicle, where both the front and driver sides of the NUJ bus got badly damaged.”

He further informed that all the delegates on board safely rushed out for safety, with only some sustaining minor injuries. He added, “We all walked out of the bus by ourselves.”

The secretary noted that the damaged bus was towed to Kaduna, where it would be safely kept for reconstruction.

University students in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture and the Southeast at large have been advised to apply for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND.

The Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Professor Maduebibisi Iwe, who gave the advice on Wednesday during a press conference in Umudike, said that the funds, if accessed, will alleviate the financial burden on parents.

The Vice-Chancellor regretted that students in the South East have not shown enough interest in the program, even when their counterparts from other zones of the country are keying into it.

According to Professor Iwe, MOUAU got a mark of N120,000 in 2023, which has now been increased to N150,000 in 2024.

“It is becoming embarrassing that students from other parts of the country are accessing the NELFUND money, but here, we are not showing interest,” Professor Iwe said.

He, therefore, encouraged students to utilize the opportunities to help their parents, as the current situation is becoming embarrassing.
