Germany Defence Minister, Boris Pistorius, has claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin is playing a game amid his country’s ongoing war with Ukraine.

Pistorius also said that U.S. President Donald Trump won’t sit and watch Putin for much longer.

He made the remark while reacting to Moscow’s overnight strikes on Ukraine.

“Attacks on civilian infrastructure in the first night after this supposedly pivotal and great phone call have not abated,” Pistorius told German broadcaster ZDF.

“Putin is playing a game here, and I’m sure that the American president won’t be able to sit and watch for much longer.”

Recall that Russia and Ukraine early Wednesday accused each other of launching air attacks that sparked fires and damaged infrastructure just hours after Putin agreed to a limited ceasefire in Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Putin agreed to temporarily stop attacking Ukrainian energy facilities but declined to endorse a full 30-day ceasefire, falling well short of what Trump sought as the first step toward a permanent peace deal.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who had agreed to the full 30-day ceasefire, said after the Putin-Trump call on Tuesday that he would support the limited ceasefire, urging the world to block any attempts by Moscow to prolong the war.

A few hours later, both sides reported attacks.
