Rivers: Remove Wike as Minister – Idam tells Tinubu

Activist, Madubuachi Idam has charged President Bola Tinubu to relieve the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike of his duties.

Idam made the remark in response to the state of emergency declared in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu due to the political crisis in the state.

Tinubu also suspended Govenor Siminalayi Fubara for six months while appointing a sole administrator to preside over the affairs of the state.

Tinubu said he was “greatly disturbed about the political crisis” in the state and accused Governor Fubara of demolishing the State House of Assembly building.

However, Idam, in a statement he signed, said: “No Democrat will applaud the suspension of a democratically elected government anywhere in the world, but I will be unfair to good conscience and morality if I pretend not to believe that it has become exigent to have a neutral power take over the affairs of the state in the time being.

“The declaration of State of Emergency in Rivers State by President Tinubu in my view is long over due. Provided the president is politically impartial over the entire power gamble, I would say that the invocation of the provision of Section 305 of the Constitution by him over Rivers government is a good riddance to bad rubbish.

“President Tinubu may need to take a step further to relieve Minister Wike of his duties as a cabinet member in his government. Perhaps to afford him the opportunity to reconsider his political decisions over the state. Else, the exercise to many may only appear as window dressing or at best hypocritic.

“On the flipside, Fubara must take advantage of this window to broker peace with his benefactors to enable him save his seat assuming such peace is an option for Minister Wike who is obviously bent on lording himself over the state at all cost.

“Peace has to take precedent in every human affair. No ambition is superior to human lives.
