FUTO VC’s refusal to bow to pressure saved my guber victory in 2023 – Otti

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has said his victory at the 2023 governorship election in Abia State would not have been possible if the Returning Officer for the guber polls, Professor Nnenna Oti had bowed to the pressure she faced.

According to the Governor, Professor Oti who is the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology Owerri, FUTO, displayed integrity and fearlessness by not succumbing to the intense pressure she faced from some persons before going ahead to declare him the winner of the Abia 2023 elections.

The Governor stated this at the wedding ceremony of Professor Nnenna Oti’s daughter, Dr Onyinyechi Orieoma and husband, Ugochukwu Peter, held at Ozara Mgbom village in Afikpo LGA of Ebonyi State.

Governor Otti who addressed the slight similarity in his name and that of the FUTO Vice Chancellor which some persons used to allege relationship, explained that he had known the Vice Chancellor but never met her as at March 2023 when she was the Returning Officer.

“And when she came, she did something that people don’t regularly do. All the pressure that was mounted on her, she turned them down, and she did the right thing” Governor Otti asserted.

“I want to use this podium to recognize her and thank her for what she did for Abia people. I think it’s more like what she did for God, because she followed her conscience; if she didn’t, I wouldn’t be here today.”

Governor Otti advised the couple to love each and urged the bride to look after her husband.
