The management of Edo University, Iyamho, on Thursday announced that a total of 51 students have so far received the sum of N61.4 million from the Nigeria Education Loan Fund, NELFUND.

DAILY POST reports that the acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Dawood Egbefo, disclosed this during a sensitisation programme for students in the Edo North Senatorial District. The event was organised by NELFUND in conjunction with the Edo State Ministry of Education to encourage students to take advantage of the programme.

“It will interest you to know that since subscribing to the NELFUND programme, the sum of N61.4 million has been disbursed, with 51 students as beneficiaries.

“Today’s sensitisation programme serves as an opportunity for us to explore how NELFUND can continue to serve as a beacon of hope for students in Edo State.

“I encourage all participants to take full advantage of this platform so that they can maximise the benefits of these funds,” he said.

He commended President Bola Tinubu for his support in fostering the growth and advancement of education in Nigeria.

“I would like to express our deep gratitude to President Tinubu for his leadership and unwavering support for the growth of education in Nigeria, as well as his vision for a more prosperous and well-educated nation,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, expressed displeasure over the low number of Edo students applying for the loan.

While noting that the number of beneficiaries in the state remains relatively low, he urged students to take advantage of the programme.

“We have cause to be concerned, which is why we are holding this sensitisation programme—to bring our people up to speed so they can benefit from this laudable initiative, which will be highly beneficial to them,” he stated.
