The World Bank, United Nations, European Commission and the Ukrainian government have said that the estimated cost of rebuilding Ukraine’s economy after Russia’s invasion has risen to $524 billion, nearly three times its expected 2024 economic output.

A new study by the institutions included data from Russia’s invasion three years ago through December 31, including a 70 percent increase in damages to Ukraine’s energy infrastructure from Russian attacks.

The study showed an increase of over 7 percent from the last estimate of $486 billion one year ago, with housing, transport, energy, commerce and education being the most affected sectors.

In a joint news release, the institutions quantified the direct physical damage to buildings and other infrastructure, the impact on people’s lives and livelihoods and the cost to “build back better”.

President Donald Trump of the United States is pushing to end the war through separate talks with Russia and Ukraine, telling reporters during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron that a deal could be reached in weeks.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal in a statement said in the past year, Ukraine’s recovery needs have continued to grow due to Russia’s ongoing attacks.

It was gathered that Ukraine’s government has allocated $7.37 billion to address priority needs for 2025, with support from donors, but still has a financing gap of nearly $10 billion, the joint statement said.

President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has rubbished claims made by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in his recent television interview.

Bwala said El-Rufai made jumbles of incoherent and disorganized statements aimed at distorting the truth.

In an interview on Arise Television on Monday evening, El-Rufai had criticized Tinubu and his administration.

He said Tinubu stopped him from becoming minister and not the National Assembly.

In August 2023, the Senate withheld El-Rufai’s confirmation as Tinubu’s ministerial nominee, citing security reports from the State Security Service.

But El-rufai said the “security thing was a good excuse they used”. “Since then, has anyone released that report telling us the security issue?,” he asked.

El-Rufai also said he was unsure if he would support the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

The former governor pointed out that Tinubu was failing to meet the expectations reposed in him to take Nigeria to greater heights.

Reacting, Bwala dismissed the claims made by the APC chieftain in the interview.

Posting on X, Bwala wrote: “@elrufai Mallam El-Rufai’s interview on Arise news were full of word salad; jumbles of incoherent and disorganized statements and responses aimed at distorting the truth in other to re-shape history and patterns.

“His philosophy is; if it is not about him, then everybody must be a victim of his ambition. Believe him at your own peril.”

Elon Musk, President Donald Trump’s adviser, says US federal workers have another chance to justify their work or lose their jobs.

Recall that Musk had originally given Federal Government employees until the end of Monday to explain their work achievements in an email.

The demand represents the latest challenge from Musk against government workers as his Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE, works toward gutting federal staffing and spending.

The original deadline passed Tuesday with staff at multiple federal agencies told to disregard his request.

“Subject to the discretion of the President, they will be given another chance. Failure to respond a second time will result in termination,” Musk said.

DAILY POST reports that DOGE, a wide-ranging entity run by the tech entrepreneur, has faced increasing resistance on multiple fronts to its cost-cutting campaign, including court rulings and some pressure from lawmakers.
