Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has ordered the deployment of more security personnel to communities in Ovia South West and Etsako East LGAs to check the killing of farmers in the areas.
The governor, who condemned the killings, also promised to provide support to the affected communities.
DAILY POST recalls that 22 farmers in seven communities in Ovia South West LGA were attacked and killed by suspected Ijaw militants while houses and property worth millions of Naira were also destroyed.
Also, two farmers were reportedly killed in Okpekpe community in Etsako East LGA on Monday, February 24, 2025.
Okpebholo assured that the government would work tirelessly to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
“We will not tolerate any form of violence or lawlessness in the state. We will work tirelessly to ensure that those responsible for these heinous acts are brought to justice, and we will do everything in our power to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Edo State residents.
“We will work closely with the security agencies, traditional leaders, and community members to achieve this goal,” the governor said.
Okpebholo also called on the people of the State to remain calm and cooperate with the security agencies as they work to address the crisis.
The governor, while urging residents and citizens to remain calm and to go about their normal business, added that the government is doing everything possible to ensure that the situation is brought under control.
