Rivers Assembly Crisis: Court adjourns case to February 17
A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has adjourned to February 17, 2025, for the adoption of all court processes in a suit filed by the Pro-Fubara Rivers State House of Assembly members, against the 27 Pro-Wike lawmakers.
The Pro-Fubara lawmakers, are challenging the status and legitimacy of 27 other members of the State Assembly, following their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
During the hearing on Wednesday, counsel to Amaewhule and fourteen others, Ferdinand Orbih, informed the court that some filed processes were missing from the case file.
He requested an adjournment to trace the documents, a request that was not opposed by the other parties.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General of Rivers State and Commissioner for Justice, Dagogo Israel-Iboroma, SAN, asked the judge to direct all parties to verify and regularize their processes at least four days before the next hearing date to prevent further delays, which was accepted by the presiding judge.
Justice Emmanuel Obile, after listening to submissions from the counsels, granted the request and adjourned the matter to February 17, 2025, for the adoption of all processes filed in the suit.

South East monarchs renew call for peace, security in region
Traditional rulers from the South-East have again called for peace, security and unity in the region.
The monarchs made the call during their meeting held in Umuahia, Abia State capital on Tuesday.
The meeting, which was attended by the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe and top traditional rulers from the South East, was also used to deliberate on matters affecting the region and the way forward.
The monarchs observed that peace, development and unity were important in accelerating development in the South East and bemoaned the level of insecurity in the zone.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of Imo State council of Ndi Eze, Eze E.C. Okeke and his Abia State counterpart, Eze Linus Nto Mba commended Abia State Governor, Alex Otti for the peace and development policies his administration had initiated and for the cordial relationship between the executive arm of government and the traditional institution in Abia.
In his speech, Governor Alex Otti expressed worries at the rate of civil unrest in communities as a result of disagreement in the selection process of their traditional rulers.
Otti, who warned that a traditional ruler should not be imposed on the people because of his financial advantage over others, said due process must be followed before a monarch ascends a throne.
