Northwest development commission to drive regional transformation – Radda
Katsina State Governor and Chairman of the Northwest Governors’ Forum, Dikko Umaru Radda, has described the Northwest Development Commission as a vital intervention for regional development.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the commission to Government House, Katsina, Governor Radda highlighted its significance.
“This commission is not just another institution; it is a critical intervention that we must recognize and utilize effectively. The appointment of a minister from this region underscores the government’s commitment to addressing our unique challenges,” he stated.
He identified security as a major concern while acknowledging progress made by security agencies.
“While significant strides have been taken, we remain committed to completely eliminating security threats in our region,” he stressed.
Addressing regional priorities, Radda emphasized the importance of agriculture and education.
“The strength of the Northwest lies in agriculture, which forms the backbone of our economy,” he noted. He also highlighted the construction of 150 new junior secondary schools as part of efforts to improve education.
He called for equitable resource allocation, urging the commission to distribute resources based on population, land size, and levels of devastation. “We urge the commission to ensure fairness in resource allocation, considering the unique needs of each state,” he said.
Governor Radda also underscored the importance of collaboration with state governments and key stakeholders to maximize impact.
“We stand united as leaders of the Northwest, setting aside political differences to work toward economic prosperity. Our full support is behind this commission,” he declared.
The Chairman of the Northwest Development Commission, Lawal Samaila Abdullah Yakawada, emphasized the legislative backing for the commission’s mandate.
“The Act establishing this commission was passed to ensure smooth operations and effective policy implementation,” he explained.
Yakawada expressed confidence in the commission’s leadership, particularly Governor Radda’s role.
“With His Excellency as the Coordinating Governor and Chair of the Northwest Governors’ Forum, we are well-positioned to drive meaningful projects and ensure their successful execution,” he affirmed.
