Gunmen attacks: Security heads visit Njaba, Okwelle, reassure residents

Following the recent failed attack by unknown gunmen at Njaba Police divisional headquarters, the heads of various security agencies in the state have conducted a crucial confidence-building visit to the Njaba Divisional Headquarters and Okwelle community.

In a press statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Police Command, ASP Henry Okoye, he stated that the
visit was sequel to the repelled attack on Njaba Division and an assault on northern scrap dealers in Okwelle by gunmen suspected to be affiliated with IPOB/ESN.

Okoye hinted that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, together with Brigadier General UA Lawal of the 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze, Commander Oguta Naval Base, Commodore MB Salisu, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Affairs, Rtd Gen. Joseph Ogbonna, Commissioner, Homeland Security, Hon. Modestus Osakwe, and other security chiefs, commended the officers for their bravery in protecting the division and urged them not to relent in safeguarding the division against any threats.

He stated that the proactive approach exhibited by the officers reflected the unwavering dedication of the security agencies to safeguard both the personnel and the community.

In the visitation to Okwelle, the delegation expressed condolences to the families of those affected by the attacks and visited injured victims in the hospital, offering support and reassurance of the security agencies’ united efforts to apprehend those responsible for the acts of violence.

Similarly, the security chiefs met with the leaders of the Northern communities in the State at Ama Hausa, reaffirming their commitment to the overall safety of all residents.

The police spokesperson further stated that the collaborative efforts of the security chiefs illustrated a proactive response to recent security challenges.

“Their continuous engagement with the community will foster trust and collaboration, ultimately enhancing the safety and security of the state,” he remarked.
