Power Brokers Plot Tinubu’s Ouster: Obasanjo, Babangida, and Abdulsalami Rally Behind Atiku and Obi for 2027 Presidency

In a calculated move to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s reelection in 2027, former Nigerian leaders Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida, and Abdulsalami Abubakar are rallying behind former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and 2023 Labour Party candidate Peter Obi. Sources reveal that these influential former military generals, alongside senior military officials, held a closed-door meeting in Minna, Niger State, the home of ex-general Ibrahim Babangida, to strategize their next steps.

Fearing the collapse of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), these power brokers are now working to wrestle control from Rivers State’s former governor, Nyesom Wike, and his allies. Their main agenda: to revive the PDP and select a formidable candidate capable of defeating Tinubu.

Having played a key role in the PDP’s formation in 1998, the retired Generals are now eyeing former Senate President David Mark for party leadership, confident he can steer the PDP in a new direction. Though initially hesitant, Mark eventually accepted the role, reportedly at the urging of General Babangida, his long-time ally.

With their eyes set on 2027, these political heavyweights are preparing for a decisive showdown, with Atiku Abubakar as the leading choice for the party’s presidential ticket. Meanwhile, Obasanjo is advocating for Peter Obi to take center stage in the race for Nigeria’s top seat.
