A member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Aminu Jaji, has backed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, noting that Nigerians must come out of the illusion of subsidy.
Jaji disclosed this on Thursday in a press conference while unveiling the ‘One Nigeria Project’ in collaboration with the National Association of Former Local Government Council Chairmen in Nigeria, NALGON Emeritus.
According to him, the economic policies of Tinubu’s administration are aimed at ending the hardship Nigerians are facing.
“Nigerians have been enjoying honeymoon overtime in terms of the nation’s economic policies. As a consuming country, there are many things we must do to overcome the illusion that we must be subsidised by the West.
“Any reforms of the Federal Government, whether tax reform bills, telecoms, or electricity tariff hikes, there are reasons for the reforms.
“We acknowledge the hardship, but the situation cannot be addressed overnight,” he stated.
DAILY POST recalls that in the past months, Nigerians had witnessed soaring headline and food inflation, which stood at 34.80 percent and 39.93 percent in December 2024.
Economic experts have attributed Nigeria’s inflation rise to fluctuations in petroleum product prices, electricity tariff hikes, and the recently approved 50 percent telecom tariff increase by mobile network operators.
