Zamfara State Governor’s wife, Hajiya Hurriya Dauda Lawal, has taken a significant step in combating drug abuse by constituting a committee during a stakeholders’ meeting in Gusau, the state capital.
Hajiya Lawal chaired the meeting, which featured robust discussions and the formation of specialized sub-committees.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the Emir of Anka, commissioners for Health, Education, Women, Children and Social Development Affairs, and Youth and Sports.
Others present were representatives from security agencies, private sector organizations, and community-based organizations. The Director of Pharmaceutical Services will serve as the secretary of the committee.
In a statement issued to newsmen by the spokesman of the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Development, Suleiman Isah, the First Lady emphasized the state government’s commitment to eradicating drug abuse, assuring attendees of full support and necessary resources.
The statement added that she urged members to act with urgency and dedication in implementing the committee’s action plan.
It also noted that the participants engaged in interactive discussions and reaffirmed their commitment to addressing the issue.
“The formation of the sub-committees was a key outcome, with members contributing their expertise to specialized areas,” he added.
“These sub-committees will be formalized into standing sub-committees for sustained action.”
