Abuja in darkness as vandals destroy Shiroro-Katampe Transmission Line again
Some parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have been plunged into darkness as vandals again destroyed the 330-kilovolt Shiroro-Katampe Transmission Line.
The spokesperson of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday night.
According to her, the incident occurred at approximately 11:43 pm on Wednesday, 18th December, 2024, which led to the loss of supply by the line on the grid.
She added that the TCN patrol team dispatched to investigate the incident discovered that vandals had stolen part of the conductor between towers T216 and T218.
Mbah said the maintenance crew had been deployed and restoration of bulk power supply through the affected line is expected in due time.
However, she did not specify the exact time.
“A TCN lines patrol team was dispatched from the Abuja Regional office of TCN to investigate the cause of the fault. The team discovered that vandals had stolen part of the conductor between towers T216 and T218
“The TCN lines maintenance crew has since mobilised to the site and is working assiduously to replace the vandalised 330kV power conductor. Restoration of bulk power supply through the affected line is expected soon,” she stated.
Earlier, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, in two separate notices, announced a power outage in parts of the nation’s capital.
Areas affected include CBN Headquarters, Ecumenical Centre, Bank of Industry, Bank of Agriculture, New Chelsea Hotel, Army War College, Reiz, Continental Hotel, NBS, Lozumba Complex, UTC, Gidan Isah, Area 10, and environs.
Others are: Katsina Ala, Kila Close, Rudolf Close, La Street, Rima Street, Ekororo Street, Sand Link Street, Olufemi and Laih Street, and their environs.
DAILY POST recalls that on March 10, 2024, the Shiroro-Kaduna line was vandalized.
The incident was the fifth time between February and March this year.

Nigeria’s oil company, Oando Plc owned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s nephew, Wale Tinubu, has been shortlisted by the Trinidadian government as one of three final bidders to take over the country’s state-owned refinery, Petrotrin.
The Trinidadian Finance Minister, Colm Imbert, disclosed this during a recent presentation of its national budget.
The defunct company is a state-owned oil company in Trinidad and Tobago.
He noted that among the initial 10 proposals, three companies had made the final shortlist including, CRO Consortium, a consortium of three Trinidadian companies, INCA Energy, an American company, and Nigeria’s Oando Plc.
According to available data, the bidding process began in February 2024, when the government of Trinidad and Tobago enlisted the services of US-based Scotia Capital to spearhead the refinery’s procurement by inviting “expressions of interest.”
Imbert noted, “A formal selective Request for Proposals process will now be initiated to determine the winner among these three companies, to restart the refinery, if found feasible.”
He explained that the proposals received were evaluated based on five criteria which were, a clear restart plan and timeline by the proposing company.
Nigeria imports petroleum products from Trinidad and Tobago, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics.
The development comes at the same time Nigeria’s state-owned Portharcourt, Warri and Kaduna remain moribund for years.
This comes as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited failed to kick off petroleum production in the Portharcourt refinery after several missed deadlines.
