As the festive season approaches, the Imo State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Aboki Danjuma, has issued special phone numbers for citizens to report any security breach or suspicious movement within their neighborhoods.
A release from the desk of the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, stated that the measure is in line with the command’s commitment to ensuring a safe and peaceful holiday season for all Imolites.
The command’s spokesperson also listed some security tips that people should follow to avoid falling into the hands of criminal elements.
“To help protect yourselves, your families, and your property, please follow these essential security tips during this season of celebration and beyond: Carefully plan your activities, especially travel.
“Stay informed about the security situation in your area and destinations.
Report suspicious persons or activities to the Imo State Police Command via: 0803 477 3600 or 0814 802 4755.
“Ensure your vehicle is well-serviced before traveling,” he stated.
In the statement, the command further advised travelers to embark on journeys during the day when visibility is clear to reduce the risk of accidents or attacks and to use reputable transport companies while providing accurate details of their relatives on the transport manifest.
The command further advised citizens on the importance of keeping their travel plans private and sharing them only with trusted individuals for possible tracing in case of emergencies.
“Lock all doors and windows, activate CCTV cameras, and avoid hiding keys in obvious places; give them to a trusted person.
“Check fire alarms, keep fire extinguishers accessible, and turn off electrical appliances when not in use.
“Leave external lights on to give the impression that someone is home.
Always ensure your vehicle is locked and avoid leaving valuables inside,” the release further informed.
The command also reiterated that the use of tinted windows and covered license plates on vehicles is still unauthorized. It further warned motorists to ensure their vehicles are locked and to avoid leaving valuables inside.
Okoye also stated that the command is using the opportunity to wish Imo citizens and visitors a happy Christmas and New Year.
