Kano: ‘I reshuffled cabinet to improve governance’ — Gov Yusuf
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has dismissed insinuations regarding the recent cabinet reshuffling, which affected the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the State Government, and five commissioners.
In a statement issued by Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, his spokesperson, Governor Yusuf said: “In recent times, we made some decisions in the administration, including a cabinet reshuffle. As a result of this action, some lost their positions in the cabinet, while others were reassigned to serve in other capacities. Let me remind the public that this action was taken in the best interest of the people of Kano.”
Governor Yusuf stressed that the need to drop some commissioners became pertinent to inject renewed energy that would strengthen the government’s policies.
With the appointment of seven new commissioners, who were recently screened and cleared by the state assembly, Governor Yusuf emphasised that the cabinet is reinvigorated with fresh ideas to drive the social and infrastructural development of the state.
“We have promised to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people. Unfortunately, we are already short of time to deliver what we promised, so we need to effect changes to speed up the process. We have reshuffled the cabinet to improve the system.
“Let me also say that we have not dropped those affected for life. We have other roles for them, so I want everybody to accept the decision as it is. As for those who were reassigned, we urge them to bring their previous experiences to bear in their new roles,” the governor said.
Meanwhile, he announced that the new commissioners would join the next executive council meeting, and their respective portfolios would be announced.

Fuel hike: CSO calls for investigation into alleged corruption in oil sector
The Coalition for Energy Reforms and Good Governance Advocacy has called on the Federal Government to immediately investigate alleged corruptions in the oil sector.
The coalition made the call on Friday during a press conference in Abuja while reacting to the recent hike in the pump price of the Premium Motor Spirit, PMS otherwise known as petrol.
DAILY POST recalls that the NNPCL on Wednesday increased the pump price of the petroleum product across the country.
The development has continued to trigger reactions from concerned citizens, who condemned the move, citing the worsening economic crisis.
Speaking on the matter, convener of the coalition, Yakubu Dauda, who addressed journalists, lamented that the Mele Kyari-led Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL failed to “deliver on its promises to improve the Nigerian petroleum sector.”
He cited the inability of the NNPCL to revive local refineries as one of the major failures of Kyari’s leadership.
He said, “The Nigerian government must immediately conduct a comprehensive audit of the NNPCL’s operations, focusing particularly on the allegations of corruption and the unnecessary charges that have been added to the price of PMS.
“Those found responsible for inflating fuel prices and sabotaging local refineries must be held accountable, regardless of their positions of power.
“Furthermore, we call on the government to urgently invest in Nigeria’s local refineries and put an end to the reliance on imported fuel.
“Nigeria has the resources, the manpower, and the expertise to become a net exporter of petroleum products, but this can only happen if we break free from the grip of the corrupt cabals that have hijacked the industry.”
