The Borong Jumat Mosque in Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa State has reopened.
The reopening on Friday stirred celebration of unity in the mixed-faith community long after an attack by hoodlums forced Muslims to halt worship activities in the mosque and to rehabilitate it.
Routine Jumat service began on Friday at the mosque after successful completion of its rehabilitation.
The mosque which was set ablaze by hoodlums has thus been fully restored, gladdening the hearts of the local Muslim population and all peace-loving members of the Borong community.
The official reopening during the Jumat prayers was attended by the state Commissioner of Local Government Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Mijinyawa Yayaji who represented Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
Other dignitaries at the event included the Commissioner of Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu Pirambe; the Amna (paramount ruler of) Shelleng; Alhaji Abdullahi Isah Dasong; and the State Chairman of the Muslim Council, Alhaji Gambo Jika.
The reopening of the mosque is widely seen as symbolizing return of peace and unity in Borong after the attack by hoodlums, an incident which caused much tension at the time.
