The Chairman of the presidential committee on tax policy and fiscal reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, says the tax reform bills will be passed into law in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025.
Oyedele made this disclosure on Saturday while speaking at The Platform, an event organized by The Covenant Nation to facilitate national development.
Oyedele said that the implementation of the tax reform bills will commence in July.
“I need to talk about the tax reforms. Part of the expectation is we expect the tax reforms to be approved, particularly the tax reform bills in 2025.
“Our expectation is before the end of Q1 and therefore we can give notice to taxpayers to prepare themselves with capacity and begin to implement around 1st of July,” Oyedele said.
DAILY POST recalls that On October 13, 2024, President Bola Tinubu asked the National Assembly to consider and pass four tax reform bills.
The proposed legislation included the Nigeria tax bill, tax administration bill, and joint revenue board establishment bill.
The president is also seeking to repeal the law establishing the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, and replace it with the Nigeria Revenue Service.
DAILY POST reports that the tax bills now have received the support of the Nigerian Governor’s Forum, NGF.
NGF also proposed a new equitable sharing formula for VAT.
The development was an outcome of a meeting between the NGF and the presidential tax reform committee, convened on January 16, to deliberate on critical national issues, including the reform of Nigeria’s fiscal policies and tax system.

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has reassured residents of his administration’s commitment to tackling the economic challenges facing them.
In a Christmas message on Wednesday, Mohammed express concern over the harsh economic situation in the country.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Mohammed assured Bauchi residents that his government is working tirelessly to ease their struggles.
“We are not unaware of the hardship being faced by our people. As a government, we are doing everything within our capacity to provide relief and make life more meaningful.
“The palliatives we are distributing are just one of many ways we are trying to bring succor to the people,” the governor said.
He noted that while immediate relief measures like palliative distribution are ongoing, his administration is focused on long-term strategies to strengthen the economy of the state.
“We are determined to build a Bauchi State where every resident feels the impact of government policies. Our vision is to transform every part of this state into a hub of development and economic stability.
“This includes investment in infrastructure, social amenities, and policies designed to improve the lives of ordinary citizens.”
Mohammed appealed to the people to remain patient and supportive of government efforts, stressing the importance of resilience and unity in overcoming the current challenges.
“Christmas is a season of love, peace, and forgiveness. I urge us all to extend these values beyond the festive period. Let us support one another and continue to live in peace, irrespective of our differences,” the governor said.
Mohammed also used the opportunity to thank the people of Bauchi State for their unwavering support for his administration since inception.
He promised that his government would not relent in its efforts to deliver impactful policies and programmes.
“With your prayers, support, and understanding, we will achieve greater progress together. I believe brighter days are ahead for us all,” he added.
