In a statement issued on Friday by the Centre, IPC Executive Director Lanre Arogundade emphasized the critical role of the media in election processes and raised concerns about the safety of journalists that will be in the field.

“Though this election is an off-cycle one, it still falls under the purview of media electoral responsibility.

“For the candidates and their supporters, it is as significant as any other election. The atmosphere in Ondo State will reflect the usual activities associated with elections,” Arogundade said.

He urged journalists to adhere to established ethical standards for election coverage while being vigilant about their safety.

“It is essential to avoid situations that could put journalists in harm’s way,” he added.

He equally reminded journalists of the importance of maintaining neutrality during the election.

“Partisanship is not just about party membership but also involves avoiding expressions, statements, tags, symbols, or colors that align with a particular political party or figure.”

The IPC director advised journalists to ensure they are properly equipped and accredited for the election duties, which is slated for Saturday.

“Journalists should have their identification cards and press tags clearly displayed to avoid harassment or unnecessary identity checks by security agencies,” he stated.

He also warned against unauthorized entry into polling units by journalists not on duty.

The meeting, held at the Governor’s residence in the Old Government House, Jos, provided an avenue for him to brief the federal lawmakers on his administration’s vision to restore Plateau’s lost glory and ensure equitable development across all communities.

Speaking at the meeting, the Governor emphasized the need for synergy among leaders across party lines, describing it as critical to the realization of the Plateau project.

He said, “We have come to the realization that without unity and collaboration, we cannot move Plateau forward.

“Today marks a new beginning as elected representatives of the people from different political parties, including the PDP, APC, and Labour Party, have resolved to work together for the Plateau project,” Governor Mutfwang said.

“The Plateau project is about developing and moving our state forward.

“This meeting symbolizes our collective resolve to bury political differences in the interest of our people.

“I am glad that we held this discussion in a harmonious atmosphere, and I am confident it signals a brighter future for Plateau State,” he maintained.

In his remarks, the immediate past Governor of the State and Senator representing Plateau South, Simon Lalong, who spoke on behalf of the National Assembly members, commended the Governor for initiating the dialogue.

“I want to thank His Excellency for this initiative. We have had a fruitful interaction, shared our views, and agreed to work together to address the challenges facing our state.

“The Governor assured us of his support, and we also pledged to support him in moving Plateau forward.

“Next year, the people of Plateau will witness a transformed state under Governor Mutfwang’s leadership,” Senator Lalong stated.

The meeting was attended by several National Assembly members, including Senator Diket Plang (Plateau Central), Hon.
