NiDCOM to Host Investment Workshop in Kano

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) is set to host a sensitization and advocacy workshop in Kano, focused on promoting diaspora investment in North-west Nigeria. 

The event, scheduled to take place on January 30-31, 2025, at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, aims to engage and mobilize Nigerians in the diaspora to contribute to the socio-economic and cultural development of the nation.

According to NiDCOM, the workshop will provide a platform for insightful discussions, networking opportunities, and the exploration of viable investment prospects in the North-west region. 

The event will feature a keynote paper presented by renowned Investment Promotion Specialist, Byron ISI. 

Byron ISI, a Federal Government Certified International Conference Speaker and Country Director of FCMLI Africa, emphasized the importance of diaspora investment in driving economic growth.

“Diaspora investment has the potential to unlock new opportunities for economic development in Nigeria,” he said. “By leveraging the expertise, resources and networks of Nigerians in the diaspora, we can drive innovation, create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the North-west region and beyond.”

The Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, highlighted the commission’s commitment to engaging and mobilizing Nigerians in the diaspora. 

“We believe that the diaspora community has a critical role to play in Nigeria’s development, and we are committed to providing platforms for them to contribute,” she said.

The workshop is expected to attract stakeholders from the North-west region, including state governments, private sector operators and diaspora organizations.

NiDCOM has invited the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to host the event and has requested a courtesy visit to discuss areas of collaboration.

The event will also provide an opportunity for Nigerians in the diaspora to connect with local businesses, policymakers and other stakeholders, with a view to exploring investment opportunities and contributing to the development of the North-west region.

Byron ISI, who will deliver the keynote paper, is a multi-disciplinary thought leader and published author of eight international book titles. 

He is currently the Country Director of FCMLI Africa, a global management and leadership institute, and serves as Technical Adviser to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Industrial Training and Development.

His expertise in investment promotion, economic development and diaspora engagement is expected to provide valuable insights and perspectives for participants at the workshop.

As Nigeria continues to seek ways to diversify its economy and drive sustainable development, the role of diaspora investment is becoming increasingly important.
