The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has recovered 40 plots of land worth over ₦20 million from a notorious land-grabbing syndicate operating in the state.
The Chairman of the commission, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, disclosed this during a press briefing in Kano.
He described the recovery as a milestone in the fight against corruption and fraudulent land acquisitions.
According to Rimin-Gado, the syndicate orchestrated elaborate schemes to seize public and private lands by forging documents, backdating agreements, and obtaining fraudulent court judgments.
He revealed that their activities often involved collusion with judiciary staff, lawyers, and other officials.
“These land grabbers specialize in colluding with individuals in positions of authority to acquire lands fraudulently,” Rimin-Gado said.
“They manipulate legal processes, forge affidavits, and backdate documents to legitimize their claims.”
The chairman cited a specific case in which the syndicate illegally seized 40 plots of land despite the original owner holding valid certificates of ownership.
“The owner never mortgaged the land, yet the syndicate managed to seize it. We have recovered these plots and returned them to their rightful owner. The value of the land is estimated at over ₦20 million.”
During the course of the investigation, the PCACC apprehended several suspects, including lawyers and public officials. Among those arrested was a key suspect who was found with ₦2,857,000 in cash at the time of his arrest.
“The suspect even attempted to bribe the arresting officer with the cash in exchange for his freedom,” Rimin-Gado revealed.
He noted that the syndicate exploited legal loopholes by filing bogus applications, creating fictitious defendants, and obtaining consent judgments to intimidate landowners.
“They would present these judgments to intimidate landowners, claiming the courts had ruled in their favor,” he explained. “Innocently, the courts would grant orders based on the fraudulent affidavits presented.”
Rimin-Gado commended the Kano State government’s commitment to addressing corruption and pledged the commission’s continued efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in land administration.
“This investigation is a milestone in our fight against corruption. It will bring sanity to the system and serve as a deterrent to others,” he said.
The chairman further stated that the commission is collaborating with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other stakeholders to dismantle the syndicate and prevent future occurrences.
“We are pursuing legal action against all culprits. Based on legal advice, we will take appropriate steps to ensure justice is served,” he added.

The Nigerian Senate will on Tuesday (today) screen the ministerial nominees forwarded to it by President Bola Tinubu last week.
DAILY POST recalls that Tinubu had on October 24, written the upper legislative chamber seeking for the screening and subsequent confirmation of seven ministerial nominees.
The request, which was contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio was read during Thursday’s plenary.
The ministerial nominees include: Dr Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu, Minister of State, Foreign Affairs and Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Labour and Employment.
Others are Dr Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade and Development; Dr Suwaiba Ahmad, Minister of State, Education; Idi Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development and Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Minister of State, Housing.
According to reports, the nominees have been cleared by the Department of State Services, DSS.
Some of the nominees were sighted at the office of the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, Senator Basheer Lado on Monday to submit their curriculum vitae.
