The Nigeria Police have advised residents of Edo State to cast their votes in the governorship election and return to their homes.

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG, Frank Mbah, in charge of security for the election, gave this advice in an interview on Channels Television on Friday, saying only individuals accredited to monitor the election will be allowed on the streets.

According to him, there would be restriction on vehicular movements from 6am to 6pm in the state, adding that police decided to listen to the citizens’ complaints by adjusting the curfew period.

Mbah said sympathisers of political parties from other states are currently in Edo because the election is taking place in an off-cycle season.

The DIG said it is the responsibility of the police to provide security to everyone, including journalists, observers, and politicians, who are in the state for the election.

“It is important for everybody to know that if you are not accredited to carry out the functions relating to the election, you shouldn’t be out on the streets,” Mbah said.

“If you are not an accredited personnel, just go out there, perform your civil duty, cast your votes, and return to your home.”

“You understand that this is an off-cycle election, this is one of the challenges we have to deal with,” he added.

NSCDC drafts 1,700 officers for peaceful Christmas, New Year celebrations in Niger

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC Niger State Commandant has drafted a total of 1,700 personnel to ensure hitch-free Christmas and New Year festivities in the state.

The state Commandant, Abdullahi Adamu Kambra in a statement signed by the PRO DSC Abubakar M.R Muti said the deployment was aimed at providing adequate security coverage before, during, and after the celebrations.

He noted that the deployment is also intended to protect critical national assets and infrastructure in the state.

According to the statement,” the Commandant while addressing the management staff, explained that the deployment was part of the Corps’ efforts to maintain law and order, protect lives and properties, and provide security at all meeting points”.

The statement also disclosed that personnel will conduct stop-and-search operations at exit points in the Minna metropolis to ensure a successful celebration.

The PRO stated, ” Commandant Kambra charged the personnel to exhibit a high level of professionalism and work in collaboration with other security agencies in the state”.

The Command urged the general public to assist in reporting any suspicious activity or movements to the NSCDC or any other security organization.

It added that by working together, “we can ensure a peaceful and joyous celebration for all.”
