Jos student jailed over alleged stealing

An Area Court in Jos on Tuesday sentenced Weng Pam, a student, to six months imprisonment for stealing household items worth N150,000.

The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, passed the sentence after the convict pleaded guilty to the offence.

However, the judge offered the convict an option of a fine of N30,000, as well as paying compensation of N50,000, or serving another six months imprisonment in default.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp. Ijuptil Daniel, told the court that the case was reported at the B Division Police Station in Bukuru on Dec. 14, 2024, by Mr. Jerry Pam.

He said the complainant stated that the accused person broke into his house and stole his home theatre and clothing, all valued at N150,000.

He added that during the police investigation, the convict confessed to committing the offence.

He said the offence contravened the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
