Harness women’s competence for national development – Arewa professionals tell Tinubu
The Arewa Civil Rights and Professionals Network, ACRPN, has urged President Bola Tinubu to harness the competence of women for national development.
In a statement signed by its President, Barrister Aminu Kabir, ACRPN stressed that Nigerian women should be appointed into positions to contribute to the growth and development of the country.
ACRPN made the assertion while commenting on the tenure of the Accountant General of the Federation, AGF, Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein.
Madein, the first female Accountant General of the Federation, is due to retire from the civil service in March 2025.
However, ACRPN urged the President to extend her tenure, noting that her retirement would be detrimental to the country as she has demonstrated leadership and expertise in her role as Nigeria’s chief account officer.
ACRPN further observed that Madein has shown prudent fiscal management and a commitment to transparency and accountability in public financial administration.
Noting that retaining Madein is a way of encouraging women’s contribution to national development, ACRPN observed that Nigerian women have consistently demonstrated their capacity to excel in leadership positions, making it imperative to harness their skills and expertise to drive the nation’s growth and progress.
The group further stressed the need for stability in the management of the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, considering the institution’s critical role in handling the nation’s finances.
“We appeal to President Tinubu to recognize the importance of women’s competence in national development.
“We are compelled to call on President Bola Tinubu to extend the tenure of Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein as the Accountant General of the Federation. This call is premised on the need to ensure continuity, stability, and professionalism in the management of the nation’s finances.
“Women have consistently demonstrated their capacity to excel in leadership positions, and it is imperative that we harness their skills and expertise to drive our nation’s growth and progress.
“Dr. Madein, who is due to retire from the civil service in March, has demonstrated exceptional leadership and expertise in her role as Accountant General. Her retirement would create a vacuum that would be difficult to fill, given her wealth of experience and knowledge of the nation’s financial systems.
“Throughout her tenure, Dr. Madein has demonstrated strategic foresight, prudent fiscal management, and a deep commitment to transparency and accountability in public financial administration.
“Her accomplishments in overseeing the country’s treasury were outstanding, and her leadership established a solid basis for fiscal restraint that is unmatched.
“We believe that extending Dr. Madein’s tenure would be in the best interest of the nation, as it would ensure a seamless transition and maintain the stability of the nation’s finances.
“Her continued service would also provide an opportunity for her to complete ongoing projects and initiatives, which would have a positive impact on the nation’s economy,” parts of the statement read.

Israel has announced that Saturday’s strikes in Iran marked the end of its airstrikes against the country.
The Israeli military said on Saturday it had completed its “targeted” attacks against military targets in Iran.
It added that its planes had safely returned home, Reuters reports.
DAILY POST reports that the Israeli Defence Forces, IDF, launched direct airstrikes against Iran on Saturday.
The attack, which was described as a high-stakes retaliatory attack, could bring the Middle East closer to a regional war.
At least seven explosions were reported over Iran’s capital, Tehran, and nearby Karaj just after 2.30am local time on Saturday.
