The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Esther Didi Walson-Jack has stated that the pathway to success for the nation depends on the ability of its institutions to deliver quality services to its citizens.
She affirmed this in Abuja at a three-day stakeholders’ engagement to discuss issues that will advance the civil service and the nation as a whole.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary Common Service Office, Omachi Raymond Omenka, the Head of Service noted that the nation must ensure that public institutions are equipped and positioned to deliver quality efficient and effective services.
Walson-Jack said stakeholders have a collective responsibility to ensure that the Public Service is also responsive to the needs and aspiration of the citizenry.
She stated that the provision of quality service to the citizenry will strengthen the legitimacy of government in the eyes of the people and destroys trust in government institutions when poor service is rendered.
She also called for synergy to address the challenges that lie ahead.
“We are gathered to engage in a crucial conversation about the future of our public service. We recognize that the success of the nation depends on the ability of its institutions to deliver quality services to our people. As we navigate the complexities of modern governance, we must foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and accountability within public institutions,” Walson-Jack said.
She acknowledged the critical role members of the National Assembly play in shaping the nation’s policies and laws, describing contributions of the law makers to the development of the country as invaluable.
The head of service identified two critical areas that needed attention in moving the service forward.
These, according to her, include service delivery and capacity building.
She also proposed continued investment in the development of public servants by providing them with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in their roles.
She noted that capacity building empowers individuals, groups, organizations, and institutions to implement solutions and drive positive change
