IDF targets Hezbollah drone chief in Lebanon airstrike; two reported killed
The Israel Defense Forces, IDF, confirmed it conducted an airstrike in southern Lebanon, targeting a senior operative in Hezbollah’s aerial forces who allegedly violated the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon multiple times in recent weeks.
According to the IDF, the operative was involved in launching drones at Israel, despite the ongoing truce.
The targeted person was a key member of Hezbollah’s Unit 127, which oversees both explosive-laden drone attacks and surveillance missions against Israel.
The military has accused Hezbollah of using surveillance drones to gather intelligence during the ceasefire.
Lebanese media outlets reported that the strike resulted in the deaths of two persons, though their identities have not been confirmed.
In another turn of event, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has hailed the IDF airstrike that killed Abbas Ahmad Hamoud, a key operative in Hezbollah’s aerial forces, in southern Lebanon.
“As I warned, if there are drones, there will be no Hezbollah,” Katz said in a statement following the operation.
The IDF targeted Hamoud after he was identified as being behind recent drone launches toward Israel, despite the ongoing ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon.
“We will not allow drone launches toward Israel. The launch of the drones crosses a red line and is a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement,” Katz added.
