Uganda gets new Central Bank governor
Uganda on Monday announced the appointment of Michael Atingi-Ego as its central bank governor
President Yoweri Museveni’s spokesperson,Sandor Walusimbi, confirmed the appointment of Atingi-Ego.
DAILY POST reports that Atingi-Ego previously worked for the central bank in a senior position, then left and returned in 2020 as deputy governor.
The new apex bank governor has been the acting head of the bank since the death of long-serving former governor, Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, in 2022.
According to the Ugandan Broadcasting Corporation, the bank also appointed Augustus Nuwagaba, an economist at Uganda’s largest public university, Makerere, as Atingi-Ego’s deputy.
