The Katsina State Police Command successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt and rescued 14 individuals on Sunday evening.
Naija News learnt that the incident took place in Dan’arau village, situated along the Magama-Jibia Road within the Jibia local government area of Katsina State.
As reported by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the assailants were believed to be armed bandits. They opened fire on two commercial vehicles, causing panic as they attempted to abduct the passengers.
In response to the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia LGA led a team of operatives to the scene. The police engaged the bandits in a fierce exchange of gunfire, successfully preventing the kidnapping and rescuing 14 individuals.
Regrettably, two of the rescued victims suffered gunshot wounds and were promptly transported to a hospital for medical care.
Unfortunately, one of the victims did not survive despite receiving treatment.
Authorities are actively pursuing the fleeing bandits, and investigations are ongoing to gather further information regarding the incident.
The Commissioner of Police for the State, Aliyu Abubakar, praised the officers for their remarkable courage and dedication to their responsibilities.
He highlighted the necessity of maintaining the current progress in combating crime and encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities to the Police promptly.
Reaffirming the Police Command’s commitment to safeguarding the safety and security of the State’s residents, the Commissioner assured that vigilance against criminal activities would remain a priority.
