Police announce readiness for Ondo governorship election
Deputy Inspector General of Police Abiodun Alabi has assured of the readiness of the Nigeria Police and other security agencies for the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State.
Alabi gave the assurance while briefing newsmen on Thursday in Akure after meeting with the heads of security agencies in the state.
According to him, the Nigeria Police Force is set for the election with adequate preparations and measures.
“We have commenced the effective deployment of personnel across the three senatorial districts, 18 LGAs, 203 wards and 3,933 polling units.
“Conventional police officers and tactical elements of the force comprising the Police Mobile Force, PMF, Special Protection Unit, SPU, Counter Terrorism Unit, CTU, Explosive Ordinance unit, EOD-CBRT, and the Special Intervention Squad, Sis, are already on ground.
“These units will be supported by the operatives from the Force Criminal and Investigation Department, FCID, Technical Intelligence Unit, TIU, and the Intelligence Response Unit, IRT.
“Four police officers and additional personnel from Nigeria Customs Service, Nigerian Correction Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.
“Also from the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, will be on duty at all the polling units and voting points in the state,” Alabi said.

The Federal Government said it will increase agricultural inputs and other supports to farmers to boost natural food production.
Minister of Agriculture and food Security Senator Abubakar Kyari said the reason is to discourage excessive use of chemicals in farming system.
Kyari disclosed that government is prioritising the development and application of organic fertilizer in large scale and smallholder farming.
The minister spoke in Calabar, Cross River State, as the technical council of the 46TH Meeting of the National Council on Agriculture and Food Security considered various memoranda submitted by stakeholders.
According to him: “The entire approach is to enhance agricultural productivity and production in the country.
“Our assistance to farmers in the provision of inputs has contributed to the output of crops.
“We will always facilitate rural communities, roads, electricity, boreholes, water harvesting structure, land clearing activity and appropriate technologies.”
He enjoined stakeholders and international support partners to uphold the principle of inclusiveness, transparency,
prioritisation and partnership for collective agribusiness undertakings in the country.
The minister explained that the 46th National Council on Agriculture and Food Security is a platform for appraising existing policies, programmes and projects at the national and sub-national levels, in order to entrench synergy.
Gov Bassey Otu, represented by his deputy, Peter Odey, hailed the agric initiatives, assuring that such will uplift Nigerian farmers and guarantee food security.
He disclosed that the state has invested much in the area of agriculture to reposition in the coming months.
Temitope Fashedemi, permanent secretary in the ministry said the council meeting aimed to streamline ideas and strategies for the purpose of actualising the potentials, prospects and opportunities in the agricultural sector of Nigeria.

Major General Adamu Laka, the coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre, NCTC, at the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, has assured Nigerians that the threats posed by the Lakurawa terror group in the North West would soon be neutralised.
Laka gave the assurance while briefing newsmen on the activities of the group on Thursday in Abuja.
He said the recent wave of terrorism in Sokoto State and parts of the North West by the Lakurawa terrorists was being tackled under the coordination of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
Laka said that much had been achieved in their collective efforts against terrorism and other crimes in the country.
According to him, officers and men of the armed forces and other security agencies have been at the forefront of the efforts to ensure peace and security across the nation.
“This accentuates the patriotic zeal and total commitment of the armed forces, police and other security agencies in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria.
“Sadly, a new wave of threats by the Lakurawasa has emerged. Although they are not new, they have been around for quite some time, but it is being made as if it is something new.
“Since their emergence, the NSA, the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police and heads of other security agencies have met severally to address the menace squarely.
“It may interest you to know that concrete steps based on informed decisions have been taken to completely contain the activities of these groups in Sokoto State and Nigeria at large.
“Like all terrorist groups, they aim to spread fear and undermine the efforts of governments, but I am confident that with the commitment of our armed forces, security agencies and united community, we will stand resilient and overcome them in no distant time,” he said.
