The Management of Kwara State University, Malete, has reacted to media reports on the student, Suleiman Olayinka, killed by the police last Tuesday at Tanke area of Ilorin, the state capital.
A statement by the Acting Director, University Relations, Dr Saeedat Aliyu, in Ilorin on Tuesday, claimed that the murdered student withdrew from the institution since 2018/2019 session when he was in 200 level.
“Records in the University show that Aiyeyemi Sulaimon Olayinka had voluntarily withdrawn from the department of Statistics of the institution since 2018/2019 session when he was in 200 level.
“The Management of Kwara State University strongly sympathizes with the family of the deceased and pray that God gives the family the fortitude to bear the loss,” the statement added.
DAILY POST recalls that the late student was allegedly being investigated for breach of trust and cheating.
The spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun, who confirmed the development, disclosed that investigation into the matter was ongoing.
The three Police officers involved in the incident have been arrested and detained.
