Enugu State government has vowed to prosecute individuals involved in the bullying and physical torture of a student of Federal Government College, Enugu.
DAILY POST reports that a video clip revealing the dehumanization of a student in uniform at the Federal Government College, Enugu has been attracting condemnation from Nigerians.
The now viral video emerged at the weekend showing a supposed junior student sprawling on the floor while some senior students repeatedly used their waist belt to flog him.
Reacting, the Enugu State Ministry of Education in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Education, Prof Ndubueze Mbah vowed to ensure justice for the victim.
The commission said the ministry has commenced “investigation and legal actions regarding the deeply disturbing incident of bullying and physical abuse that recently occurred at the Federal Government College, Enugu.
“This ugly event has sparked righteous anger and widespread condemnation from Ndi Enugu and generated emotional distress across Enugu State especially because of the historic investment of the state government in education reform and in provision of safe and inclusive schools”.
According to him, the Enugu State government has “zero tolerance for bullying and abuse in our schools”, stressing that the safety and welfare of “our children is paramount”.
“The Enugu State government is resolved to prosecute culprits who engaged the criminal behavior of physical assault against children”, the statement added.

The restriction notice was issued on Friday, by the state Ministry of Works and Transport, with a directive to Kwara Road Traffic Management Agency, KWARTMA, to commence enforcement with immediate effect.
Kwara govt restricts some vehicles from plying Ahmadu Bello Way in Ilorin
Kwara State Government has restricted some categories of vehicles from making use of Ahmadu Bello Way, GRA, Ilorin, the state capital, DAILY POST reports.
The restriction notice was issued on Friday, by the state Ministry of Works and Transport, with a directive to Kwara Road Traffic Management Agency, KWARTMA, to commence enforcement with immediate effect.
To this effect, the Ministry has commenced the erection of restriction signages at some designated spots from Challenge Area through Ahmadu Bello Way, which links the seat of power, the state capital.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Abdulquawiy Olododo, “Ahmadu Bello way is the road network that links the Government House, as such, the signage will be mounted along this axis to restrict access by motorcycles, tricycles, commercial vehicles and heavy duty vehicles of certain categories.”
While informing the members of the public on the readiness to enforce this Government’s directive, the Ag. Chief Executive Officer, KWARTMA, Engr Bamidele Michael affirmed that the move is to complement the existing “No Parking signs on our roads and also enhance safety and security.”
He added that traders should desist from carrying out trading activities on the walkways which were made for pedestrians, particularly in Oja-oba, Gambari, Ita-Amodu, Agaka, Adifa, Gambari, Balogun Fulani, Emir’s Road, Post Office to Challenge, and Muritala Muhammed Way, among others.
Bamidele warned that driving against traffic (one – way) is on the rise and hence any driver found culpable will be sanctioned according to the law.
