ICPC, NCoS partner to battle corruption
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has partnered with the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS, to fight against corruption.
Both agencies outlined key strategies for collaboration to strengthen anti-corruption efforts during a meeting between the acting Controller General of NCoS, Sylvester Ndidi Nwabuche and his team, and the chairman of ICPC, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
In his remarks, Dr Aliyu expressed appreciation to the NCoS boss for the visit and highlighted crucial areas of collaboration, particularly in sensitisation, training, and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU.
Regarding sensitisation efforts, the ICPC chairman suggested the possibility of engaging ex-convicts to educate Nigerians on crime and corruption, emphasising the impact of real-life experiences.
He also spoke about joint training where both agencies could learn from each other, noting that any challenges between ICPC and NCoS would be discussed and addressed.
Dr Aliyu further stressed the importance of an MoU between the two agencies to guide their cooperation.
In his address, Ndidi Nwabuche reaffirmed his belief in corruption prevention, stating that this principle motivated NCoS under his leadership to seek collaboration with the ICPC.
He said: “On 15 December 2024, I was appointed as the head of the Service by President Tinubu. I felt it was important to engage with agencies that have a direct impact on my office, and the ICPC is one of them. I want to commend the Commission for its invaluable contributions.
“We are here to engage with you and strengthen our collaboration in training and anti-corruption efforts. Like you, I strongly advocate for prevention.”
He added that NCoS had maintained a strong and productive relationship with ICPC and welcomed its recently published Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard, EICS, report. He assured that NCoS is ready to work within any framework provided by ICPC to overcome challenges.
