In commemoration of the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child, the wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, has announced the monthly donation of N500,000 to visually impaired students of the State Special School, Opefia, in Izzi Local Government Area.
Mrs Nwifuru, who spoke on the theme “Girls’ Vision for the Future” in Abakaliki, said the monthly support fund is in addition to a one million naira cheque from her Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Persons Foundation, BERWO, to cater for their feeding needs.
“I impacted the lives of the visually impaired by donating a monthly support fund of N500,000 in addition to a one million naira cheque from my foundation to cater to their feeding needs.
“This philanthropy aligns with my foundation’s pivotal objective, which aims to improve the lives of the internally displaced persons, downtrodden and needy in the rural areas.
“People with visual impairments face numerous challenges, especially relegation and dejection in society, and should be treated with absolute kindness.
“BERWO Foundation seeks to enhance the safety of blind students through the provision of emergency numbers to report possible cases of sexual and gender-based violence. The support would enhance and boost their sense of belonging and create an awareness in the environment that these special needs children have the protection of the state government,” she added.
She explained that the foundation would continue to create a conducive environment for the children and other vulnerable people to have equal access and rights and enjoy socio-economic benefits that accrued from the developmental processes in the state.
In the same vein, she visited the Nigeria Correction Service’s Abakaliki Custodian Centre, Mile Four Hospital Abakaliki, Community Based Rehabilitation Centre, Remand Home and Facilities, and Effata Orthopaedics Clinic to revalidate the mandate of the ongoing administration’s mantra of ‘The People’s Charter of Needs.
The highlight of the visitation was the presentation of a carton of 200 exercise books and other educational materials, bags of rice and garri, cartons of bath soap, and hospital facilities, which were to be distributed to internally displaced persons and patients accordingly.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has cautioned Christians against engaging in a quarrel with God.
Pastor Adeboye urged Christians to end the argument about tithe.
He spoke while addressing his congregants during the October edition of the RCCG Holy Ghost Service.
According to Adeboye: “I want to beg everyone all over the world. Let this argument about tithe come to an end, please.
“If your pastor says he doesn’t want tithe, don’t leave his church. If he says all he wants is offering, give him offering.
“But if your heart tells you that you should give God at least 10 per cent, find a church nearby where the pastor says, ‘We can collect tithe, we will use it for the glory of God,’ then give that pastor your tithe so you don’t quarrel with your pastor, and you don’t quarrel with God.”
The clergyman advised Christians to respect their pastor’s wishes and give offerings if tithes are rejected.
He, however, noted that those who feel personally convicted to pay tithe should seek another church where it will be accepted.

The Federal Government says it will soon set up a Command and Control Centre to check irregular migration into the country.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja at the induction ceremony for operational officers of the Command and Control Centre for Regular Migration, stressing that Nigeria is at the centre of migration management within the subregion
He said that Nigeria does not have the luxury that some other countries have, because of its geographical location.
“We are in the Sahel region and the Gulf of Guinea. The tendency for migration towards Nigeria from the sahelian states is there.
“What we are doing today is the regular migration command and control centre. Very soon, we will come up with the irregular migration command and control centre. We won’t just rely on our airports but ensure that our land and marine borders, anybody coming in, is pre-profiled. Very soon the president will be commissioning the e-gates in our international airports.
“This is a scheme where there is no margin of error, where you cannot guess work, where you have to be mentally alert and ready to sacrifice for the sake of the fatherland. Security must be 100 percent accurate and not 99.9 percent because the 0.1 percent inaccuracy can destroy the 99 percent. Therefore, we are providing the clock power supply because we cannot afford to have downtime.
“Finally, NIS is beginning to give meaning to its name, in that it has gone beyond just a travel document processing agency but a critical organ in terms of our national security architecture.
“The national call to duty doesn’t come bigger than this. A lot depends on you. The ability of Nigerians to sleep with their two eyes closed depends on you.
“With the infrastructure in the command and control centre, it means that nobody, not a single person should be able to come into Nigeria without us pre-profiling him. The government has equipped you to do objective screening and no longer subjective screening”.
Also speaking, Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service NIS, Kemi Nandap said 123 officers and men who scaled through rigorous fundamental training were selected to work on the centre.
