Oshiomhole uncovers defect in remodelled 250-bed Stella Obasanjo Hospital
Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Cyril Adams Oshiomhole said a defect has been discovered in the construction of the remodelled Stella Obasanjo hospital by the immediate past administration of governor Godwin Obaseki.
DAILY POST reports that Oshiomhole disclosed this at the inspection tour of the facility in Benin City.
Oshiomhole, who was accompanied by a team of medical consultants and the contractor, however, said that the team had brainstormed and agreed on how best to correct the error.
“I went round the Stella Obasanjo Hospital to inspect the facility. I was accompanied on the visit by consultants and the contractor handling the project to look at what they had done so far.
“We discovered errors made while constructing the hospital. We brainstormed on what to do to ensure we correct the errors detected. We all agreed that the issues should be resolved as I love working with the team.
“Team work has helped us discover the error, and that is why you can see behind me gynaecologists and surgeons and some medical consultants who are here to support me.
“The contractor and the consultants have agreed to make the necessary adjustments noticed before the commencement of operations in the hospital”, he said.
Others who accompanied the commissioner on the inspection were the Permanent Secretary, Hospital Management Agency, Dr Efosa Aisien, Director Clinical Services, Dr Odiko David and Director of Medical Laboratory Services, Omuera Francis, among others.
DAILY POST recalls that Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan, the wife of Nigeria former president, Goodluck Jonathan had on November 6, 2024 commissioned the remodelled 250-bed hospital as part of activities to mark the end of eight years of two tenures of the immediate past governor, Godwin Obaseki.
Present at the commissioning of the remodelled hospital was the former president of the country, President Olusegun Obasanjo, whose late wife, Mrs Stella Obasanjo, the hospital was named after by the former governor of the State, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, who established the hospital in 2007.
