Herbalists in Ogun State have been urged to embark on documentation of their herbal solution for diseases that scientific drugs can no longer cure.
Executive Secretary and Registrar of the State Alternate Medicine Board, OGAMB, Dr Kafayat Lawal, made the call in Abeokuta, during the monthly meeting of the Leadership Alternate Medicine Practitioners in the state, advocating for partnership on herbal products.
Dr Lawal said one of the reasons the Board was established is to ensure proper documentation of genuine herbal medicines, for future reference, adding that improper documentation by alternate medicine practitioners in the olden days had impeded the growth of the practice.
She stated that the board was ready to support practitioners who have any herbal solution that has been confirmed effective, assuring that the government would facilitate laboratory tests, clinical trials, approval of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, packaging, as well as branding, with proprietary rights.
Responding, Chairman, Traditional Healers Association, Toyin Ogatimirin, appreciated the government for its numerous attempts at standardising the practice in the state and assured of the association’s readiness to cooperate with the Board at achieving all the set goals.
Speaking with journalists in Abeokuta, National President Ewedayepo Traditional Healers Association of Nigeria, Dr, Adesina Olugbemi, commended the government for its efforts in the development of alternative medicine practice in the state and beyond, pledging members’ support and partnership with the Board.
Responding, the Olu-Isese of Ogun State, who doubles as the founder of the Isese Kingdom of Truth and Traditional Worshippers, Oba Ifarotimi Adifagbola, promised that members of the association would support the Board for the process to be a success in the state.

The Senate on Thursday approved the establishment of the South West Development Commission following consideration of a report by its Committee on Special Duties.
Chairman of the committee, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan (APC Borno Central) presented the South West Development Commission Bill, 2024, after which it was passed for third reading by the Senate during plenary.
Kaka, in his presentation, said the intents and purposes of the bill are well structured for the socio-economic development of South West.
“If the Commission is established through presidential assent to the bill, it will, like other development-driven commissions established on zonal basis, receives funds from the Federation Account, donations from development partners etc to address infrastructural deficits and tackle ecological problems in the region,” he said.
The Senate accordingly moved into Committee of the Whole for clause by clause consideration of the bill after which it was read for the third time.
In his remarks after the passage of the bill, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Jibrin Barau, who presided over the session, commended the Kaka-led committee for a job well done.
According to him, the South West Development Commission, like other ones recently established, would address the infrastructural and ecological challenges in the South West.
“The essence of the various development commissions being set up is to fast track development of the entire country.
“President Bola Tinubu has assented to similar bills passed for zonal development-driven interventions and will surely assent to this one,” he said.
