The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has predicted thunderstorms from Thursday to Saturday across Nigeria. NiMet’s weather outlook released in Abuja predicted thunderstorms over parts of Kebbi State on Thursday during the morning hours in the North. Later in the day, it said thunderstorms are expected over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara.
NiMet predicts 3-day thunderstorms across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has predicted thunderstorms from Thursday to Saturday across Nigeria.

NiMet’s weather outlook released in Abuja predicted thunderstorms over parts of Kebbi State on Thursday during the morning hours in the North.

Later in the day, it said thunderstorms are expected over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara.

NiMet said in the North central region, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Niger, and Kwara states during the morning hours.

It added that later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Niger, Plateau, and Benue states.

According to NiMet, in the southern region there are prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Ondo, Edo, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Delta states during the morning hours.

The agency anticipated thunderstorms over parts of Enugu, Ondo, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Oyo, Edo, Ogun, Osun, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, and Delta states later in the day.

NiMet said, for Saturday, in the North central region, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Taraba and Adamawa states in the morning hours.

Then in the afternoon into evening hours, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Katsina. Kebbi, Zamfara, and Sokoto states.

In the North Central region, it said, there are prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Plateau and Niger states during the morning hours.

The agency further said that thunderstorms are expected over parts of Niger, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory later in the day.

In the Southern region, NiMet said thunderstorms are expected over part of Ondo, Ogun, Cross River, and Delta states during the morning hours.

According to NiMet, progressing into the afternoon/evening hours, thunderstorms are envisaged over Oyo, Ogun, Edo, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Delta, and Cross River states.

In the northern region, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Taraba State in the morning hours of Sunday.

It forecast thunderstorms over parts of Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Taraba, and Jigawa states later in the day.

It predicted cloudy skies in the North central region with intervals of sunshine anticipated over the
region in the morning hours.

Thunderstorms are expected over parts of Kwara, Kogi, and Benue States during the afternoon into evening hours.

In the southern region, thunderstorms are envisaged over Oyo, Ogun, Edo, Ondo, Delta, Rivers, and Lagos states.

Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, and Cross River states.

The agency urged residents to avoid flood-prone areas as there is a high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities due to heavy downpours.

According to NiMet, strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur, public should take adequate precaution while relevant authorities are to adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has emphasised the importance of marriage counselling in equipping couples with the necessary knowledge and skills to build stable homes.

This recommendation was made during the Muslim Family Summit held in Abuja, where Shettima was represented by Aliyu Modibbo Umar, Special Adviser to the President of General Duties.

In a statement on Sunday by Mr Stanley Nkwocha, spokesperson for the Vice-President, Shettima stressed the significance of returning to core family values, citing them as the cornerstone for national development.

“These values include love and mercy between spouses, maintaining harmony and balance at home, and viewing marriage as a spiritual commitment and act of worship.”

Additionally, Shettima highlighted the importance of kindness, good character, seeking knowledge and guidance, and recognising the family’s responsibility in shaping individuals and society.

Shettima noted that reinforcing traditional family structures was crucial in addressing Nigeria’s pressing social and economic challenges.

He explained, “Its mission is more than a reality check—it is a guide, steering us towards embracing marriage not just as a worldly institution but as an act of worship.”

Drawing from Islamic principles, he reminded the audience that marriage is a source of tranquillity, and the family serves as the pillar of moral and social order in society.

Shettima urged the Ummah to guide the current generation of couples, expressing hope in the gathering of scholars and experts sharing best practices rooted in the Qur’an and Hadith.

He emphasised that adherence to these teachings could provide solutions to many social issues facing the nation, stating, “When we build the family on the wrong foundation, we risk losing everything.

“But when we raise it upon sound Islamic principles, it becomes a fortress that preserves the values we hold dear.”
