The Yoruba community of Ghana, has officially outdoored a 62-year-old astute businessman as a new Chief for the Yoruba people in Ghana, to uphold the culture and tradition of the people and to promote unity and peace among them.
The coronation, followed the successful installation of Alhaji Rashid Brimah IX, early this year, as custom and tradition demanded and following the demise of his predecessor, Chief Alhaji Hamza Peregrino-Brimah VIII.
The event was attended by hundreds of citizens and friends of Yoruba descent from far and near as well as dignitaries from Nigeria. The ceremony was used to showcase some of the rich cultural values, traditions and potentials of the Yoruba people.
Alhaji Rashid Brimah IX, was sworn to the Ga Mantse represented by the Abola Mantse and the Atofotse (Councellor) to the Ga Mantse, Nii Ahene Nunoo III,
Explaining the background behind the Yoruba Chief’s oath to the Ga Mantse, Nii Ahene Nunoo III, the Abola Mantse, stated that King Tackie Tawiah I, had appointed Chief Brimah I, as his representative in overseeing the Islamic community during the Gold Coast era.
He added that Chief Brimah I, was later crowned and became a member of the Ga Traditional Council, which is why the Yoruba Chief took an oath to the Ga Mantse.
Nii Ahene Nunoo III, urged the new Chief of the Yoruba Community in Ghana, Alhaji Rashid Brimah IX, a descendant of Alhaji Brimah I, to unite all Yoruba people and resolve existing chieftaincy disputes within the community, noting that similar issues among the Ga people are affecting the Ga state.
He encouraged him to remain dedicated to the Ga Mantse and to lead with selflessness for the betterment of the Ga state.
In his remarks, the new Yoruba Chief, expressed his commitment to serving the Ga Mantse and the Yoruba community.
He stated that he would gladly fulfil his leadership role whenever called upon by the Ga Mantse, emphasizing his dedication to both the community and its leadership.
Alhaji Rashid Brimah IX, also expressed optimism that community members would rally behind him in fulfilling the responsibilities expected of his position.
