Rivers crisis: Senator Natasha seeks Tinubu’s intervention over Wike, Fubara feud

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan representing Kogi Central Senatorial District has expressed concern over the political crisis rocking Rivers State, calling on President Bola Tinubu to immediately intervene.

She said the feud between the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and Rivers State Governor, Siminalaya Fubara was not in the interest of Rivers people, insisting that Tinubu should intervene before the feud degenerated further.

In a statement made available to DAILY POST by her Chief Press Secretary, Arogbonlo Israel on Tuesday, Akpoti-Uduaghan urged Tinubu to ensure that the FCT Minister focuses on his job.

She said Governor Fubara is governing Rivers on the strength of the Constitution having been elected by Rivers people and he should be allowed to govern in line with the Constitution.

The crisis, she noted, has been characterised by violence, intimidation, and alleged electoral malpractices, threatening the peace and stability of the region and the country at large.

She urged President Tinubu to rise to the occasion of protecting the innocent citizens, lives and properties and be committed to the promotion of peace and tranquility in the circumstances that Rivers State found itself.

“The situation in Rivers demands urgent attention, and I implore Mr President to take decisive action to prevent further escalation.

“We cannot afford to watch as the crisis deepens, threatening the stability of the region. President Tinubu’s leadership is crucial in resolving this impasse.

“If left unchecked, the crisis may undermine Nigeria’s democratic progress, embolden perpetrators of violence and electoral malpractices, and threaten national security and stability,” Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan stated.
