Yobe State Government has approved N1.4 billion to support 2024 flood victims across the 17 local government areas of the state.
The funding aims to provide relief to those affected by the recent flooding, which has resulted in the loss of lives, widespread injuries, and significant damage to homes, infrastructure, and public facilities.
Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Mairo Amshi, disclosed this while briefing newsmen after the Executive Council Meeting held on Monday.
Amshi said the multipurpose cash support is part of government’s disaster recovery strategy.
She said that the commencement of the disbursement of the cash support of N50,000 each to 1,500 beneficiaries in each of the 17 local government areas will begin after community engagement involving traditional rulers, religious leaders, security personnel, women and youth representatives, as well as the media.
“I want to assure you that, the disbursement committee being set up will not be biased, as disaster doesn’t know political party,” she said.
