Bauchi Govt approves contributory pension scheme for civil servants
Bauchi State Executive Council has approved the implementation of a contributory pension scheme for civil servants.
The Head of Civil Service, Yahuza Adamu Ningi, announced that the scheme requires civil servants to contribute eight percent of their salary, with credible pension administrators appointed to address long-standing pension and gratuity issues.
Ningi also confirmed that negotiations for the new minimum wage are in advanced stages, assuring workers of the government’s commitment to their welfare.
He added that the council has approved the recruitment of 2,000 youth as part of the Bauchi Road Transport Authority (BAROTA) Corps to combat youth unemployment and enhance road safety and law enforcement.
In another development, the Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, led by Commissioner Maiwada Bello, has been granted over N6 billion for constructing a permanent site for the Bauchi State Oil and Gas Academy in Alkaleri.
On education, the council ratified a work plan for the World Bank-assisted AGILE project, aimed at renovating and equipping selected schools to raise educational standards in Bauchi.
Commissioner Dr. Jamila Mohammed Dahiru stated that the project will provide upgraded facilities, WASH programs, and capacity-building for teachers, and will include second-chance schools for women.
Lastly, Commissioner of Works and Transport, Ibrahim Gambo Galadima, reported that the council approved multiple road projects in Kirfi, Alkaleri, Dass, Toro, and Bauchi LGAs to support sustainable growth and development across the state.
